Costa Cálida

Costa Cálida

Spain's "Warm Coast"

The Costa Cálida (meaning "Warm Coast") is in the South east of Spain and is a 250km stretch of Mediterranean coastline in the Spanish province of Murcia. This region has a micro-climate which features hot mean annual temperatures (and hence its name, "Warm Coast") On average it can boast 325 sunny days each year with an average temperature of 20 degrees making it an ideal all year round golfing destination.

Within the province are the well golfing paradises that are La Manga, Murcia, Cartagena and Torrevieja A huge number of top drawer golf resorts and courses are home on this beautiful part of Iberia.

Murcia has its own airport with connections to numerous UK cities, but is also an easy 40 minute drive from Alicante airport. Hire cars are cheap, accommodation is plentiful and great value and the resorts, towns and cities are awash with bars, restaurant and entertainment. In short, Costa Cálida is a perfect golfing destination. Whether it's for a four-ball along with accompanying partners, or a large golfing group.

There are many PGA championship courses such as El Valle which has hosted the PGA European Seniors Tour, Hacienda del Alamo which is the longest golf course in Spain and the famous La Manga Club. Aside from the obvious choices, there are number of beautifully designed courses. El Valle, La Torre, Mar Menor, Hacienda Riquelme, Alhama Signature and Saurines de la Torre. All of these courses fall under the Nike Golf umbrella and as such offer deals and discounts if booked to play as part of packages. Several of the courses are designed by Jack Nicklaus and all are based upon dedicated golfing resorts that have been built around the 18 holes in the style you would expect to see in Florida. There are a vast range of course styles to suit all eyes ranging from lush green parkland courses such as Altorreal and Roda that are awash with water and have a real PGA feel to them; to Saurines de la Torre, El Valle and Alhama Signature that have a desert valley style course and are unlike many courses most visitors will have played on before.

Travelling to the Northern end of the region and Torrevieja and you find some more premium courses with La Finca and its 5 star hotel and spa being a notable standout for its carpet like fairways and greens that run so fast it is like putting on glass. Other mentions should go to Campo de Golf Villamartin, Lo Romero and Las Ramblas Golf. That trio of courses would line up against any other three in Europe and no golfer would walk away disappointed.

Spain's Value + Quality

Golf prices in the region tend to average around €45 including a buggy and unto about €60-€75 for the often titled 'premium clubs'. Whichever your budget allows you will not be disappointed and the cost of any golf can always be balanced against the fantastic value of food and drink in the region. With beer averaging at €2 a pint and the average cost of a lovely 2 course meal coming in around €20, it’s clear to understand why golfers travel to this beautiful part of Spain in their droves.
