Costa Del Sol

A region full of surprises

Costa Del Sol has just been voted the European Golf destination of the year at the recent IGTM Awards. So what is it that makes it so special? The Average Golfer takes a closer look at the region and uncovers quite a bit more than just sun and sangria.

Costa Del Sol offers up a huge amount of golf courses over a fairly compact area many with views of the magnificent coastline. Malaga airport is a modern airport that is accustomed to dealing with the significant footfall that arrives and departs every day of the year.

Malaga Airport is very much set up for the travelling golfer and if you are not concerned about using your own golf clubs then an easy option is to make use of the 'Clubs to Hire' facilty located in the airport itself, offering a very convenient way to golf whilst on holiday. All the clubs on offer are from major brands and the latest releases.

Transfers to all major destination are within 1 hour of the airport, you can of course choose to rent a car from the many rental facilities available and driving through the area could not be easier. The AP7 motorway takes you from Malaga through to Sotogrande.

We stayed in the Sol Estepona Atalaya Park Hotel which is located just outside Marbella. Below is some video content from the trip which shows Costa Del Sol has a lot to offer!

Day 2 of our trip started with golf at the popular Atalaya Park, a picturesque parkland course that allows all levels of golfer to enjoy, great atmosphere around the clubhouse and some great food to be had afterwards in the restaurant/bar.

We then spent the afternoon at the breathtaking Caminito Del Rey (more below) and onto Puerto Romano Resort in the heart of Marbella to visit one of the most exciting restaurants in the region - Bibo by Dani Garcia offers you a taste of his Michelin starred cuisine. Puerto Romana is a village style resort that offers up some high quality dining and cocktail bars with a fantastic atmosphere.
