It is an ideal course to hold large competitions and tournaments as well as to enjoy a pleasant, relaxing day. The golf course is fully integrated into the landscape, a reflection of the work that has been done to preserve nature and to take care of the environment.

18 holes, 6,641 m. par 73, and four tees per hole.

    Alferini Golf Vila Padierna

Played Alferini which is one of the three courses at Vila Padierna on the Costa del Sol. It's not cheap but what a course.

Before we arrived it was lashing down and you could see flooded greens. One thing to be aware of is that parking under the hotel costs 1.80 € per hour! The solution is to check in get a buggy and park in the free car park up the hill.

By the time we were ready the rain had stopped and it was overcast and warm. The fairways were still a bit wet but not the least muddy. We were first to tee off after the rain and it was millionaire's golf as we didn't see anyone for the whole round. You need a buggy as it's hilly with some long runs from green to tee.

The Greens? They were just fabulous. Even after the rain they dried out quickly and we're fast and true. Also very big. Being on them didn't guarantee a two putt finish!

The layout is just stunning with the fairways being laid out between huge rocky outcrops. Some were wide and encouraged big drives others were very narrow and placement was everything. Having said that it is very fair course where good shots aren't punished.

Interestingly for such a mountainous course there is a lot of water. Par threes over lakes with no bail out areas or drives that needed to be accurate were the order of the day.

There are no weak holes and it was only half way round that we realised that off the yellow Tees it is almost 7000yds. Off the whites it's frightening not just the extra length but the carry involved.

The sun came out and the views are stunning and I can't recommend it highly enough. The bar is reasonably priced and the staff are very helpful. Rather like La Cala courses but much better maintained.
