The Par 71 course measures 6379 yards from the white tees, 6130 from the yellows tees and 5508 from the ladies tees. Ashton & Lea is a fairly flat course and provides a fair test of golf for players of all abilities, but it is a course that requires the player to think and plot their way round.

The course features three tricky par-3's, most notably the 6th, where out of bounds awaits any errant tee shots leaked to the right. Water plays its part at Ashton & Lea, as seven holes on the back nine are affected by it. Another of the outstanding holes is the short par-4 13th - on the tee the player is faced with either attempting to fly the water that lurks around 210 yards from the tee, or play safe and lay-up short leaving a longer second. The approach shot is played downhill to a bowl shaped green; a par here is readily accepted.

    Excellent Society venue

we visited this course as part of a society group and we all had a great day's golf with an excellent package of food and hospitality on offer. The greens are in excellent condition and I would recommend anyone to consider this testing parklands course as a suitable venue for your golfing day out.

    Decent parkland course

I have played Ashton & Lea several times previously, and returned in August 2016 after a gap of a number of years.

Although the course had suffered a major downpour a couple of days previously, I was pleasantly surprised to see that other than the mainly GUR bunkers, the ground was holding up pretty well, and the greens were running true.

The layout consists of an outer 9, characterised by OOB down the right of many holes, and an inner 9 which provides a gentler test, with more room off most tees.

This is a fairly typical parkland layout, with plenty of trees, ponds and ditches to negotiate as you plot your way round. Not overly long or difficult, it is nonetheless an enjoyable and easy-walking course.

Green fees are eminently reasonable, making this a great value and pleasant venue on an occasional basis.

    Warmest day of the year

12 of us played here in a small works comp on the warmest day of the year. 34 degrees at 4.30 for the tee off. Nice to not have to play in waterproofs for a change!
Considering it had rained pretty much everyday for the last 2 months the course was in excellent condition. No signs of any wet areas, the bunkers were all well raked and the greens a good pace and true.
The pace of play was also pretty good considering how many people were out on the course.
A few sandwiches and chips after were plentiful and good value.

Staff were very friendly and informative. all fairways were easily distinguished. Greens tricky and in good condition. There were some interesting holes that can challenge shot selection. Would play again.

I really enjoyed this layout, some really pretty holes and some drivable par fours. There are some difficult holes but the course offers you a chance to score well. Nice friendly clubhouse with a nice practice area. But tricky to find though!

I had the great good fortune to play this lovely parkland course on a beautiful, warm, sunny day in the company of the Lady Captain and her husband.
After enjoying a quick coffee in the spacious clubhouse we set off on what was to turn out to be a hugely enjoyable round. The course is not long but it does require careful strategy to avoid finding short but quite punishing rough. Fairways, were in excellent condition with attractively mown patterns making many appear like works of art! The greens were amongst the best I've played this year. Bunkers were superb too. A thoroughly enjoyable course and one I very much look forward to playing again.
The quality and value for money of our post-round sandwiches and chips was equally impressive!
