I am going to be as honest as I always am with my reviews, because that is what this website is all about. The good and the bad. It is regrettable that I am posting my first bad review this season. Firstly the positive, decent clubhouse friendly staff fab breakfast and lovely food and drink afterwards. But the course itself was poor. The tee boxes where awful with way too long grass and impossible to get a flat stance to begin each hole. The fairways where way too long too and greens where very very slow. Nothing good enough to mention as a positive regarding the course itself. This place could be so much better!!

Don't like to start on a negative, but the main memory of playing this course will be the poor condition of the tee boxes and fairways. Tee boxes were uneven, meaning I had to often re-position my ball to allow myself half a chance of teeing off in a comfortable stance. The fairways were left long (I can only assume this was to create a bit of difficulty as most holes were played in a fairly straight line). This lead to a few disappointing moments when after hitting a good tee shot, I would find I was in a poor lie due to the fairways resembling the rough in certain places.

A personal enjoyment of the course was the greens. The speed was slow and they were mostly flat allowing some good long putts which help boost my confidence and improve my score. I realise not everyone will like this, but as a beginner, I was able to walk away from each hole on a positive note.

Cannot find fault with the clubhouse or the staff. We were able to make a last minute cancellation within our group for no extra charge, and upon arrival, we were presented with enough tea and bacon butties to feed an army.

On a more humerous note, short of there being a blizzard or a hurricane, we experienced every of type of weather imaginable over a peroid of 4 or 5 holes, which lead to a lot of outfit changes for one of the guys in my group, amazing how much someone can fit in a golf bag!!

Great coffee and butty to start!
Was expecting a hilly course, exactly the opposite, tee boxes and fairways needed further works to be ready for summer conditions. Approach to the greens and on the green very good condition. Clubhouse very good, good choice of food, friendly staff!

The course was ok on the whole, set in attractive parkland with some good views. Fairly tight front nine with accuracy being key with a more open back 9 including some very long par 4s near the end of the round. As has been mentioned in other reviews a little extra attention to the course would certainly improve the experience. 150 marker posts really help a player plan the hole and i feel are essential for any course, and the fairways should be cut shorter. Greens were good, if a little slow, tee boxes need improving, must be on flat, level ground.

The customary society bacon barms went down well, along with a great cup of coffee, and a well stocked bar for a drink afterwards. Couldn't fault the staff, great service, we were well looked after.

Our society played Garstang on Sun 28 June 2015. I'm not one to blatantly criticise a course, more I like to feel that if the club were to take on board these comments, the members (and visitors) would have a far nicer course. Take it as constructive criticism.

150 yard markers - as we walked down the 1st, I said to my playing partners that I couldn't see them. Then one of the group noticed a paving flag either side of the fairway. No marking on it, just a plain paving flag. We didn't know if it was the 150 marker or not, no mention on the card. Once we'd played the 2nd, and saw the same, we knew what they were. This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen in 20+ years of playing golf. If you were 200 yards from the green, you were walking forward 40-50 yards to see where they were as they were flat to the ground. They need to be upright, and obvious. Even on a tee you might change your tactic if you think you could get there with 2 short irons instead of blasting a driver.

Tee boxes - the gap between the yellow markers must have been between 6 and 8 feet at times. The narrowest I've ever played on. The grass was a bit long and they were uneven too.

Fairways - grass was too long, we really found it difficult to distinguish between the fairway and the rough at times.

Greens - these were the best feature, they were true (very slow though) but you could throw a ball into the green confident it would sit.

Clubhouse was nice with a nice terrace to watch players tee off on the 1st or finish on the 18th. Staff were friendly, and breakfast provided was good and plentiful.

Garstang is quite a new course compared to some we have played a well maintained very open course although not up to date with the stroke indexes on the score cards differing from the tee box markers and the 150 markers are a paving slab in the ground which is totally useless on the fairway unless you are standing on it.The fairways could have benefited from another cut as it was hard to tell the difference from the ruff at times, greens were a bit slow for my liking but if you over hit the ball onto the green could be a blessing as the ball is less likely to run off all in all though not a bad course by any means well worth a look at.The staff are fantastic greeting us with tea and coffee on arrival and more bacon barms than we could handle very polite and a credit to the club.

A nice layout with some really pretty holes running alongside a river. Greens are not always amazing but in general the course offers fantastic value. Some real challenging holes particularly on the back nine. A good course to run a society day as the golf team will do a deal on a package for you.
