Came here with bunkers golf society on 18/6/16.
Having visited in the winter i was looking forward to playing this course again. I personally love the layout of the course, it plays quite long but there is room if you are a little errant off the tee, it played especially long on this visit due to the weather we have had meaning there was no run on the fairways. However there was quite a few things that i found very poor for this visit, for one the bunkers were a shambles they had zero sand in them and the starter was more then aware of this...just use common sense and make them G.U.R. they were that bad. The other big one for me was the tee boxes, when you pay this kind of money you expect certain things and the tee boxes were very poor, on slants and slopes and very uneven, i remember one tee box that would make you draw the ball even if you fade it! there was that much slope.
The greens i found were good to putt on even if they was a little bit slow and a touch inconsistent but you have to expect that with all the rain etc so all good there. I do have to mention the starter that resides on the first tee..he was very eager to come out and tell our group as we passed to the back 9 that we was 3 mins behind schedule! I mean come on 3 min late, i dont need to be told hurry up or we might put a group out in front of you!bit of a joke.

I dont want it to seem like it was all bad as i said i do actually really like the course but again we was all let down after the round with our food that had been booked, we chose this venue as one of our major competitions and so wanted a privite room which we had conformation of booking but to be told on the day no your not having that room now we have put someone else in there you will have to go sit in the bar area! Then after waiting an hour for our food which they had booked in at the wrong time of 6pm instead of 4pm i can say i definitely will not be visiting this course again which is a great shame.

Great course. Great weather! Nice greens and pretty wide fairways
Played with the bunkers golf Society.
The golf course was great, greens were sensible and generally was in good condition. Have to be critical of the bunkers though as they were pretty poor. Very hard and compacted, not very much sand. Didn't feel like they had ben properly raked for a long time. One real positive, was that it didn't seem quite so busy, meaning the round was quicker. Q-Hotels have taken over, they have spaced the tee times out more which meant less time standing on tees, which was an issue here in the past.
One of the biggest problems I had that was the start of Marshall he Was very quite rude.
I was in 4ball and it took us 2hrs and 5mins for 9 holes which I think is relatively fast.
The food in the clubhouse was shocking overly priced and the wait for the food to come is a joke. 35mins for pie and chips.not enough staff on for a Saturday. Very Poor management.
Don't think I will be rushing back any time soon.
Better courses in the area for better value for money

played here on the 18th june with bunkers golf society .really enjoyed the course an the day . the course plays very long in places so for the longer hitters thay could take advantage of the scoring the shortest par3 was 180 yards . the layout of the course was spot on only downfall was the bunkers they zero sand in them like hitting off concrete an the greens where very incosistant an tee boxes very uneven plus after gettin to the 9th hole the course starter fella came over saying we where 3 minutes to slow for the round even tho are 4 ball took 2 hours to get to the 9th green which i think is reasanble considering the course was packed but all in all ad visit again for a less fee

Played Mottram with the Bunkers Golf Society on a pleasant June day.. Notwithstanding the monsoon the area had endured the previous few days, the fairways and greens were in good condition.. Understandably the greens ran a bit slow, but considering the amount of corporate/society golf that is played there, they were kept in a good condition..
The "starter" on the first tee gave a comprehensive briefing before we got under way on the layout of the course; as well as warning of the poor condition of the bunkers.. He wasn`t wrong - compact and full of stones they certainly hadn`t been looked after for a while..
However, the course is a decent layout with an eclectic 18 holes that although long and testing, were fair if you kept it straight off the Tee.. Of the 16 in our party 10 scored +30pts to prove that point..

Considering our berating from the starter for being a few mins over the desired completion time for our round, the club could do with employing him in the kitchen, as the hour wait for our post game food certainly would have had the old fella`s blood boiling..

Worth a visit tho.

Recently visited Mottram Hall with the Bunkers Golf Society.
You drive down a tree lined road to be confronted by an impressive hotel. The complex has a large car park, The course is impressive with some stunning holes. The fairways and greens where in good condition despite the recent heavy rains. The course is long being over 7000 yards. Some holes are only reachable in regulation by the longest hitters. The club house is large modern and spacious. Would I return again ? Yes please. hopefully it is on our list of venues again next year.

I visited Mottram Hall on 18th June 2016 as part of Bunkers Golf Society.

In the days leading up to our visit, we had experienced torrential rain storms that had seen parts of the North West suffering flash flooding. However, despite the odd patch of standing water in run off areas, the course played well. The fairways were lush and soft under foot and were beautiful to play from. The greens were smooth and consistent, despite being a touch slow.

The course is a lovely layout with the back 9 being a touch more difficult than the opening 9. It requires distance and accuracy with the rough looking far easier than it actually plays - especially when damp. The long grass was supremely penal and made accuracy the order of the day.

Its a well established parkland course with some interesting layouts and use of the natural contours of the land. However, it isn't too punishing a walk with most of the course being quite flat.

The major disappointment during our visit was the bunkers. All of them should have been GUR, but I only recall seeing a couple of them marked as such. The starter had warned us that they were a common complaint for the venue and that the feedback to restock them had been falling on deaf ears. Its awful that a venue that holds itself in this regard and is seen as one of the top golf resorts in the North West can let such a basic thing fall so woeful in quality. They were bereft of sand and were compacted following rain and looked like the groud staff had give-up on raking them. They were rock hard, clay-like and were like taking a shot from a work surface - completely unacceptable for this flaw to be so consistently obvious throughout the course and it ruined scores on several of our members cards.

The tee boxes were also a negative point, with many of them being uneven and like an upturned wok. Not what one would expect from a course that has hosted prestigious tours over the years.

At £55 for a Saturday visit including bacon roll and a 1 course meal - it isn't cheap and local member courses offer better value [even on a Saturday - where we have averaged between £35 and £45 all season on some beautiful venues where all aspects of the course [including bunkers] have been cared for and tended immaculately.

The food was pleasant - but not exactly difficult to get wrong [bacon roll and steak pie and chips] and the prices in the clubhouse are in line with what you expect to pay at hotel resorts. However, for me, I would rather pay this money into the coffers of a dedicated golf club that isn't also looking to cater for all manner of hotel guest.

I visited as part of Bunkers Golf Socities event.

The clubhouse is absolutely fantastic, really classy with a high quality finish.

The course itself is a long test of golf with some fantastic holes and in general, the course was in superb condition. The greens were amongst the best I've played for a while, offering a nice smooth roll. The only criticisms would be that the bunkers were in poor condition and some of the tee boxes were uneven.

The back 9 was absolutely superb and I'm sure any golfer would enjoy playing that particular stretch of holes.

A Decent Day of Winter Golf

I played this resort course on after considerable rainfall for the previous few days. The cold wind was gusting but it remained dry whilst we were out on the course.
Upon arrival my 7 pals and I enjoyed a delicious, substantial full breakfast. Although we had all arrived by 09:20 the breakfast was not served until 10:15 which meant that it was an unnecessarily rushed affair as we were due on the first tee at 10:30!!
In truth the tees were in pretty poor condition throughout and the greens were soft, slow and very bobbly.
The wind and the heavy conditions underfoot coupled with the impression that the back nine holes were constantly being played uphill made the clubhouse a very welcome sight when it eventually came into view!
I am sure though that the course will be in much better condition when we return in the summer with a large group of friends.
On the whole though it was decent value at £25 (inc. breakfast)

Good Winter Course

Played here on 30/1/16.
Due to the recent rain and general weather the uk has had i wasnt expecting any course that was open to be in good condition, to my surprise Mottram Hall had held up quite well. The greens were in really good condition for the time of year so credit to the greenstaff there, every green in play and although they had been hollowtined they run very nice and suprisingly fast.
The only thing i could be picky about was the fairways were quite long which is understandable due to the wet weather but i felt they could have been a little shorter cut. As with most winter golf hitting a ball either in the first cut or second cut of rough and the ball is 100% gone, plugged and never to be seen again so make sure if you are offline to play a provisional off the tee! Practice facilities looked good although the putting green was not in use otherwise it would have scored a 10 on that. All in all i enjoyed my round and would play again in winter conditions but i am really looking forward to playing in the summer when the course will be in no doubt pristine condition.

Good but slow

The course was in relatively good condition but I wish these resorts courses would employ someone to keep the rounds moving along, they surely know when it is a busy day in advance?? It is hard to enjoy when you continually wait on every shot.

I said the course is good, played it many times and the hotel and facilities are as you would expect from DeVere.

Slow play kills this game with too many amateurs copying the pros with pre shot routines and holding a pose, just hit the damn thing will you and get a round of golf done in under 5 hours! Courses employ stewards at weekends!

I hope the club replies?.
