Situated in a picturesque area of the Wirral, overlooking the River Mersey, this is a fine test of golf that won't leave you fatigued or your legs weary. It is a mature parkland course with plenty of natural hazards that will excite you, frustrate you, and if you keep your concentration, ultimately reward you. The greens in particular are well guarded so your iron play will be tested to the full.

The par 3s are also tricky to negotiate and you will need to carefully consider the clubs you use from the tee on them. If all of that leaves you in need of a drink then the clubhouse has a great atmosphere to relax in, and the catering facilities offer a full range of snacks and meals.

Played here and caught the tail end of a society and so was fairly slow going. My playing partner accidentally put his bag on the tee (it was hard to distinguish where it started tbf) and rather than get off the mower and politely ask him to move it the groundsman shouted from 40 yards away over the roar of his sit on mower. Bit of embarrassment caused to my friend. Anyway the course is OK. Driver is not needed until about 8 holes in if you are able to driver it 240 yards or more. I used a hybrid and 4w on all but 4 holes. The greens were OK but coming behind a society there were a good few pitch marks which are not the clubs fault but I can only mark it as I see it. I am quite local and would play this again as it's not a slog. Good value though on tee times but hard to see how a £950+ membership is justified but that is incidental.

Some short par 4's and only the one par 5 so leave your driver at home. Tight fairways on some holes and well protected greens on others make up for the lack of distance. Greens were fairly slow compared to my home course but ran true. Chap in the pro shop was very friendly. Booked a four-ball for £60; at £15 each would say this was good value for money and would look to play here again. However, would try not to time it just after a competition, as the pace of play from the final comp group was slow.

Played Eastham Lodge on Sunday 21st May. This is an excellent course and offers fantastic value in weekend Golf for £18. Everywhere was cut, in excellent condition from tees to Greens and all rough had been cut too. As usual a warm welcome was given to us and this place is very hard to beat value for money wise. It is nice and flat but has pleasant views and plenty of bunkers to test your Golf. Thanks all at the course for another great day and we will definitely return.

Played a society day early 2015. One rainy cold Sunday. Loved this course. So challenging. Not a very long course but you have to play your way round it and pick your shots and places to be on the course. Lots of fairway hazards. Few long walks between green to next tee. But had a really enjoyable day on the course even in the rain. Thing that let it down to us a a society was the members and there rudeness toward us. Course wasn't booked again and has not and will not due to this issue.

Played this course for the second time on Wednesday(31/5/16). Found the course to be trickier than last time. The fairways are tight and there is no semi-rough so unless you are on the short stuff you may well be lost! Course is in great condition and a good test for all levels of golfer

Last visited 6 years ago and when booked again had a few comments of "hope it`s improved". Following the game (24 of the RAM Golf Society ventured out) the overall impression was that it had greatly improved. Greeted in the clubhouse afterwards by the Captain made for a warm welcome. One downside, many mentioned that the bunkers were very hard, not a lot of sand in them. Other than that the RAMs were impressed on a greatly improved golf course.

Eastham Lodge is a lovely parkland course that is tucked away on the Wirral but really need not be. In an era where first impressions on the internet seem to sway people far more than factual information and reviews, Eastham Lodge doesn’t jump off the page when you first view it. The club house looks a bit like a 1970’s library but if you look beyond the surface this is a superbly run, friendly and well kept course.

At less than 5500 yards off the yellow tees, it is far from long. However, it is well crafted and designed and requires as much thought as brawn. Cut within ancient woodland which is now Eastham Country Park, with some oaks dated as being over 500 years old, it is a very mature looking course that is easy on the legs.

One thing to note – that I am a huge fan of – is that they have a conscientious group of astisan staff who are always buzzing around the course and keeping the place in tip top shape.
The fairways were lush and springy and the greens rolled true and of consistent pace throughout. The tee boxes were all well kept and were flat and presented well and the bunkers were full of raked and lush sand.

Its clear that the club takes great pride in what they are doing and in doing so its take what could be a “run of the mill” course and turned it into a real joy to play. In fact, I don’t understand why they don’t market themselves better – instead seeming to rely on superb cheap green fees to entice visitors. Don’t get me wrong, we all love a cheap game of golf – but Eastham should know that the quality speaks for itself.
A warm reception was received throughout and everyone was warm, welcoming and friendly. The food was well priced and more than adequate and filled the gaps ideally.

In summary, I would recommend Eastham Lodge to any lover of parkland golf. If you are a player – like me – who enjoys seeing a good local course striving to do the best they can, then you should give Eastham a visit. You will not be disappointed by the course, the club or the welcome.
