Last time we played here was last December after the storms. This time despite heavy rain the previous week the course was in perfect condition.

The guy in the Pro Shop is always welcoming and got us out on the 10th to avoid the queue on the first. This is a busy course as it is one of the few that can be walked. We swapped our buggy for new PowerCaddy trollies. This made for a much better round as buggies were confined to the cart path.

The course is mainly flat with only a steep climb up the second to a really tricky green that is elevated, slopes at the front and slopes down severely at the back. A three putt is pretty certain unless you are near to the pin. The following hole makes up for it with long drives downhill the order of the day.

The course then goes along a wide valley with some great holes with water featuring on a number of them.

The back 9 is similarly interesting with water again featuring on a number of holes. They are currently extending the 13th into the lake to form a green that has water on 3 sides.

The back 9 also has a steep climb but this times the green is more generous.
The greens were all in great condition, smooth, true and fast. They are also very big in most cases and landing on them is no guarantee of a two putt

The only way the course is slightly let down is that many of the fairways have clumps of tufty grass that mowing doesn't eliminate that can lead to some poor lies.

The clubhouse is nice with both covered and open areas outside and a good selection on the menu at prices much lower than other clubs in the area.

This is a great course to play but be sure to check out when it is less busy before you book.

We played here in December as part of a Stay and Play package at Guadalmina. The week suffered torrential overnight rain every night for a week and El Paraiso had suffered from some 10 hours of heavy rain the evening before.

When we arrived the sun was shining but the course was closed. The Pro said it might open later. Whilst we were debating what to do he got on to the Green-keeper and lo and behold they agreed to open it.

Despite the rain the fairways were generally OK but you could see 'wavelet' patterns of grass cuttings where the water had washed across the slopes.

In spite of this the greens were good. Obviously very soft and balls were stopping where the landed but they then rolled well. Similarly only odd patches of the fairways were wet and all that was needed generally was to adopt winter rules. The thing that did suffer was the bunkers many of which had been washed out down to the base. Staff were working on them but many were unplayable.

The holes are both interesting and challenging and there is plenty of water to get your attention. A buggy isn't necessary as it is generally easy walking. This was particularly true as buggies were confined to the paths that in common with most Spanish courses seem to always be on the opposite side of the fairway to your ball.

On our round we came across the Green Keeper and Director checking the course after the rain. Really pleasant to talk to in contrast to so many in Spain.

The course is very pretty and I would recommend it highly.
