This place has a touch of class, from the moment you enter the car park you are met with one of the most stunning views across the Dee Estuary looking onto to the Welsh hills. The clubhouse sits perched on top of the 18th green and from the wonderful patio area and floor to sealing glass fronted clubhouse your views are uninterrupted, I have no doubt this is a popular spot on a summers evening to watch the sun go down following a round of golf whilst enjoying a well earned drink. When you reach the pro shop you will be met with a warm welcome from Tom Atkinson and his team, the recently refurbished shop stocks a great range of golf equipment and clothing. The changing facilities are also of a note of quality. The practise facilities at this course are superb, a newly renovated driving bay, practise putting and chipping areas are all maintained to the highest standards. The first tee shot can be a little daunting, from the highest point on the course the hole makes a slight dogleg right to left and is a fantastic staring hole where a par is hard earned. The 3rd hole is a real beauty but watch you don't ruin your card early as this offers plenty of trouble, your approach shot to a small green which is protected by a pond and well positioned bunkers, so take care! Its is then off to cross the 'Wirral way' a well known pathway that stretches for miles and is a popular route for cyclists and walkers. The par 3 4th is a monster off the back tee and plays over 200 yards quite often into the wind, followed by the 5th with a new layout which I have to say is taking great shape. Following the 9th hole you are required to cross back over the 'Wirral way' and enter a more unexposed back nine. There is much more of a parkland feel, with mature tree lined fairways more prominent. It is difficult to single out a star player on the back nine, all are of equal quality and offer real variety and great layout. When your reach the 18th tee, the clubhouse appears once again and if you have managed a decent tee shot you will be left with an approach to the final green which can be quite daunting! You may only have a wedge in your hands but with a packed balcony and all that glass staring at you be sure not to look up to quickly and 'thin one' into the clubhouse! Following the round you can enjoy some great food options in the spike bar or lounge area from a wonderful menu provided by the newly installed catering team from Carringtons. The clubhouse is buoyant and a wonderful place to recall your best shot of the day, or the worst! If you are planning a trip to the Wirral or attending this years Open, make sure you find time to visit this class act.

6th May, 2019, by Bunkers Golf Society

We took Bunkers Golf Society back to Heswall Golf Club on 5th May 2019 and once again it did not disappoint.

It is a fabulous golfing venue with excellent practice and warm up facilities, including a full size driving range and chipping/pitching area.

The condition of the course was once again superb with lovely definition on the fairways and between the cuts of rough. The greens were good for the time of year but like most clubs at the moment are a little behind where they may expect to be due to weather conditions over the last few months. However, they played well and were a fair test of ability with the 'flat stick'.

The course has a good mixture of 'thinking holes' where you have to use good course management to post a competitive score and other holes where you can open your shoulders. Depending on the prevailing wind on the day, the hole can play very differently and a relatively straight forward par 4 can become a real test of ability.

The course enjoys some wonderful views out over North Wales and its a pleasure to walk around the 18 holes - which we did as fourballs in around 3 hours 45 minutes.

The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful and the food in the club house [both pre and post round] was plentiful and tasty - and offered fair value for money.

Once again Heswall GC has met our expectations and delivered a superb day out for the society and we would have no hesitation in returning again.

I re-visited this superb course on May 4th together with 23 friends from Bunkers Golf Society.
Having played the course several times before, I was eagerly anticipating our return. I was not disappointed.
The course is in my opinion an absolute delight. It is beautifully designed and laid out. It is maintained to the highest standards. The facilities are superb and the staff and members are always cheerful, welcoming and professional.
I rate this club and course amongst the very best I’ve played (and I have played many courses over many years) and would recommend it to anybody WITHOUT RESERVATION.

I played here as part of the visit of Bunkers Golf Society.

A lovely, mature parkland course in excellent condition. Some very tricky holes where club selection is paramount await you here. Others require you to get a good hit with the big stick away.

We had post round food which was very nice and all the staff in encountered were very friendly.

    Well worth a visit.

The course was playing well, tees were in good order and the fairways and greens were in great condition.. Heswall is always one of those "look forward too" days on our calendar. Upon arrival you immeadiately recognised that you were in for a great day of golf. The facilities were well above average and I don't think the practice area's could have been any better. Although once again my golf wasn't great I fully appreciated everything about the golf course. Fairways were cut tight, the rough (visited that often) was penal. Best of all were the greens, they were superb! The roll was true and consistent.... credit to the green keepers! Overall although I ended up with the 'BogSeat' through my poor golf I still thoroughly enjoyed everything about the place. I fully recommend you visit Heswall, you will not be disappointed. P.S. The food afterwards was delicious!

We took the society back to Heswall Golf Club for the first time since 2015 on a lovely summers day. The course was as beautiful as the weather with it bring presented in immaculate condition and great feedback should be passed to the green staff who have got the club back to its prime condition after the recent improvements around the course.

As always, we received a warm welcome from the staff and members alike, with many at the club taking the time to chat with our members and to ask about the society. It’s always a friendly and hospitable welcome at Heswall and this visit was no different.

The course is a fair test of parkland golf with fabulous view afforded out over the Dee Estuary. It is a fairly easy walking course with the odd undulation but nothing untoward. For our visit, the fairways appeared tight and the greens well-guarded due to the trees being in full bloom. This narrowing of the course provides a real test of golf and in unison with the rough being quite deep, fluffy and penal it means that the better scores on the day are from those who keep the ball straighter than others.

The general condition of the course was excellent with well-kept tee boxes, the fairways were firm but lush and there was plenty of ‘roll out’ making shot distances longer than average. The bunkers were well stocked, although frustratingly groups before us had failed to rake several of them and foot prints were a bit of nuisance – why do players do this?

The greens were the star of the show. Smooth and slick and once you picked your line and set the ball off it rolled true. They were a pleasure to putt on and were all evenly paced so there was no inconstancy through all 18 holes.

Post round we enjoyed burger and chips and the portions were large and flavoursome and offered superb value for money – as did the day itself. Heswall is an above average course in an area that is blessed with a number of superb clubs. However, despite this, the pricing for the visit was fair and reasonable and a lot of other clubs could do well to learn from this rather than charging extortionate prices and therefore pricing out many people who would happily play in their droves for a more modest yet rewarding price.

All in all, it was another superb visit to Heswall Golf Club and one that will likely see the society return again in future years. It’s certainly a club we would highly recommend to other golfers and societies and is somewhere to put on the ‘must play’ list when in the Merseyside/North West area.

I played here on the 10th of June with BunkersGS.

My first visit and I’m sure won’t will not be my last, what an absolute gem of a course with some fantastic views as you walk around. The fairways are tight in areas but maintained superbly, the rough is challenging as it should be but again fair in areas, definitely a course for a fairway finder.

The tee boxes were very well maintained and just the littlest of touches like a wooden box for broken tees for anyone to use next is a great feature.

The greens were outstanding to say the least and rolling fast, they were also taking the ball well from long and short range. Easily hands down the best greens I’ve played on in recent years.

Overall a great club with lovely, welcoming members and staff.

Having already played this course before i was really looking forward to it and it did not disappoint one bit. Heswall is a stunning golf course that tests all parts of you game.
The greens were in fantastic shape and you knew half way to the hole if it would drop as there rolled true. I would have give the greens 10/10 but i did see one or two that still showed a little bit of winter damage. It was more the look rather then the roll that was. The whole course looked stunning and i think it is a fair test for golf of all abilities.
Already looking forward to my next visit, keep up the great work!

Played 10th June with bunkers in the baking sun following weeks of lovely weather in UK. Course played short like all courses at the moment and greens running firm and hard to hold but running very true. Great mixture of holes, some tight some open, some short some long. Enjoyed the course although my game was awful. Food post round was lovely. Great practice facilities, with range a chipping areas next car park and 1st tee, not a long walk like some courses.

Would definitely recommend playing here and would love to see it our society calendar again.

I played here on 10th June 2018 with Bunkers Golf Society and play off 10hcp.

We visited Heswall GC again after a couple of years break and found it in superb condition. No doubt a gloriously sunny day always helps but the course was beautiful on the eye and played just as well.

Fairways well manicured and the rough - although deep and very penal - was well defined.
The tee boxes and bunkers were well looked after and it was a pleasure to go around the 18 holes.

However, the stars of the show were the greens. They rolls smooth and quick and were as good as anything I have played on locally in the last couple of years. The changes made on the course are a welcome addition and the horse offers a real test of golf for all abilities.

The facilities have always been superb and the hospitality even better - once again, we enjoyed a lovely post round meal and the whole day offered fabulous value for money.

Its a course I will undoubtedly be returning too and will be voting for the society to do likewise.
