Lovely course. Quite short overall but some long par 4s especially if the wind is against. Greens a little inconsistent, some looked like they hadn’t been cut and was a little bobbly

Breakfast on arrival was lovely, though trying to find code to get in the door a bit of a pain, might be an idea to let Societies / visitors know before arrival or a simple welcome sign with code on by door.

Bit of confusion from club over booking meant we had to wait an extra hour from original booked time before going out, which while disappointing, didn't spoil the day too much as the sun was shining.

Course was a nice layout with good mixture of holes in terms of length and shape. Course and greens lovely and dry despite wet winter, as expected with a links course. Greens were also in good shape for early in the season and ran true.

Would be nice if there was a chipping / bunker practice area. If there was one, it wasn't near putting or grass range and we weren't made aware of any.

A suggestion for any club welcoming visitors / societies (i.e. Non members who aren't aware of facilities and security), would be a welcome letter that summarises things like practice facilities (location etc), changing room amenities, security codes etc. Having visited Warrington GC who do this, it goes a long way to making you feel welcome and that the club has thought about and cares that you are visiting and may not be familiar with the club.

Would definitely visit again.

The RAM Golf Society haven't played Leasowe for a while and were reminded of how good the course is. Playing in that distinctive links style the opening holes are tricky with the hotel boundary of the course being very close to the fairways. The next holes are even trickier with the boundary of the course following the line of the waterfront. The fairways were in good condition and the greens excellent. However other than us on the course we saw another soul. We basically turned the light off and locked the door as we left. Up against some of its heavyweight neighbours Leasowe still holds its own and gives a great links challenge

The course itself was is good condition with the greens rolling true. However the problem we had was when we booked for the 4th January we were told our 4 ball should be able to complete the round in 3-4 hours, what they did not tell us was there was a society of 5 different 4 balls in front who massively held up play. We wanted a nice friendly game on a Wednesday morning/afternoon and what we got was waiting on every tee (20 minutes on one of them). We didn't complete the course has we ran out of light (tee'd off at 11:15 and it went dark at 4:15), we had to leave the course on the 15th. If we were told there was a society in front we would've opted for another venue, and maybe tried to play this course on another day, they maybe should have had marshalls on the course when there a large groups playing.

Played here as part of bunkers golf society.

Leasowe has become a venue we continually book year on year basis as its always in good condition and stands up to our varied weather we have.
This has to be the calmest condition wise i have ever played here and it reflected in the scoring! The greens werent as good as they usual are and you could tell they had done there winter protection work on them which will no doubt make them great again even in the winter months. Suprisingly the ruff was quite brutal on this visit, you would find your ball but it was tough to get the yardage you wanted out of it and that was only missing the fairway by a few yards.
I look forward to the next visit here and would recommend it to anyone and im sure our next visit will see it in top condition. Must also say the hospitality here is top notch on every visit and all staff are very friendly and helpful.

Visited Leasowe on the 8th October 2016 with the Bunkers Golf Society. Having played this course a number of times of the years it still seems to bring something new each time I play. Considering we are now in October this was the calmest conditions i've ever played this course and although links courses biggest defence normally is the wind and weather this course is still challenging on a calm day.

The course is still in fabulous condition for the year, although the greens a little off from what they have been previously it is late in the season and you have to expect green works are starting at every course now.

The hospitality is 2nd to none and with every visit the staff and members are welcoming friendly and very helpful.

A course I have no doubt i will visit many many more times over the years. Great course!!

I have visited Leasowe plenty of times and went back with Bunkers Golf Society on 8th October 2016.

Unusually for this visit there was not a drop of wind - which is unheard of for this coastal track. But that made scoring somewhat easier as its the courses only real defence.

Considering we are now in October and the weather is turning, the course was still in good order generally with bone dry fairways [as always]. The greens were a little below par compared to some previous visits, with a bit of uneven roll and a slower pace - but we are entering the winter season and have to expect this now.

As always, the welcome in the pro shop from Andrew Ayre PGA was wonderfully warm and friendly and its always a pleasure to visit just to be treated this well by a great local golf club. The food before hand was plentiful and cooked well and another great thing about Leasowe GC is that they offer realistic value for the course - which cannot often be said for some courses when a society comes calling [or any guest for that matter].

Once again, another lovely visit to Leasowe and it is a course I would recommend throughout the year with their coastal links style drainage. Get yourself down there!

Played a society golf day here September 2016. What a fantastic day we had. Club house is great. Good food, decent pint. Nice staff. Club pro was great with help before booking,on day of event and with his after service. Course was in great condition. We had a lovely sunny Sunday with mild wind. Fairway in great shape, rough at good length difficult but not unplayable. Green and pin positions testing. Bunkers some deep but that's a link course style and very well keep. Good test for any golfer. Course is a must play. Had a great day and will be booking again next year for a society day.

Played here on 08.05.16 with the Royal Oak GC. I found the course to be bit repetitive, most holes looked like an extended pitch and putt, and apart from the 3rd hole along the beach wall, you felt like you were walking backwards and forwards always looking at the same view. No fault with the quality of the course, fairways, greens etc, just felt a bit uninspired.

A superb links course one of my favourite played to date. Very interesting course throughout and the staff have got it in great condition (only small gripe was our group found 2 or 3 holes where on crowns due to the ground lifting when the hole cutter is lifted back out of the ground) but apart from that very small moan it is a brilliant course and we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. I without doubt play here again many times. Would also like to mention the friendly staff and club pro all giving us a very warm welcome.

Much has been said about Leasowe on this website as our wonderful friends and sponsors at Teeuplo use this course to film their winter golf and review videos. It was down to these excellent visual aids that we decidedly to give Leasowe a try for the first time.

There`s always an air of excitement and anticipation when we visit a new course to the society, and as the course booker myself a slight element of worry. "Will it meet the standards that we set ourselves with courses" is what`s going through my mind. It did, it certainly did!!

The first thing to say, which is something that most of our group don`t have to consider, is the wonderful attitude of the staff at Leasowe. I book the courses for the season the previous October or November and a must for us is a buggy or two because our society no longer has all its God given knees in place. Some of our lads are more robot than man! Leasowe only has 2 single seater buggies that are permanently booked out to members. The pro assured me that he will get a buggy for at least 2 of our players. I was nervous, but when we arrived the pro met us and said "I`ve managed to get you a proper 2 seater buggy". He didn`t say where from, but I was delighted! When I paid our dues he gave us a sleeve of top end balls to use as a prize. Now it was only a sleeve of balls, but I was truly gobsmacked at this and somewhat blown away. In 6 years of booking courses we have never been given anything by a club. It was just a sleeve of balls, £10 from the shop but the gesture was huge and gave all the lads a real sense of being welcomed. As we were about to tee off on the 1st he came tearing out of the pro shop towards us and gave each group a very high quality course planner, again for free. Absolutely brilliant!

The clubhouse is very nice and overlooks the sea and New Brighron beach and has a lovely balcony that sits out over the 18th hole, a par 3.

The course itself was great. I love links courses. This isn`t quite what you would call an out and out links course all the way round, the back 9 is more of a genuine links but that doesn`t take away from the course at all. The 1st is a great short par 4 hole where I witnessed a 28 handicapper drive the green with a hybrid and fall 1 inch short of an eagle with his put. You then walk through the remains of a castle, yes a castle, to the second which is surrounded by high banks, a large hotel and a stream. You then play a very un-linksy par 3 over a large pond before the famed 4th hole. Standing on the raised tee your faced with an extremely intimidating, and frankly dangerous tee shot, as the public footpath for the beach is literally right next to you on your left. In my opinion this tee box should be moved lower down and to the right away from the footfall. If your tee shot does manage to miss the publics teeth then things get no easier. A sweeping dogleg left into the prevailing wind at 430+ yards par 4 with high banking both sides, a stream up the right and many bunkers! A hole that wears its SI 1 tag very proudly!

There is a lot more water on this course than you would expect from a links and it uses the surroundings very well. On a hole on the back 9 you drive over the corner of a go cart racing track that forms the dog leg!

It`s not a long course overall with a few par 4s 320 or less but every hole is different with its own unique challenges.

The front 9 had some work ongoing, or recently completed, and was a bit scruffy but when it`s matured in a year or two it will be visually stunning.

The fairways and tee boxes were excellent, there are lots of wonderful links pot bunkers, some needed steps to get into them, and the greens were comfortably the best we have played all season, absolutely excellent!

You know the merits of a course when you get to the clubhouse and all the lads are begging for it to be on next years fixture list!

A final word on the pro. When he gave me the sleeve of balls he said to me and the others in the shop at the time "have a great day lads, and if you enjoy it please consider coming back to us".

Consider it done my friend! I suggest others reading this review should do the same!

What a day this was! Perfect weather to match a course in perfect condition! Playing a links course for the frist time, teeing up on the opener and I thought to myself this course looks like a pitch and putt. How I was wrong. The first hole is deceivingly long... the second has a Brook around the 220 driving spot.... the third is completely over water and the 4th... apart from it being the longest par 4 ive ever seen, you have to be brave to not aim for the rough on purpose!! Just after these openers I was loving it! The greens were in perfect condition. Ran true and consistent with speed and quality! The only criticism I have is that I finished the day on 36 points and come 4th!! Robbed!! Loved it andoes will certainly be playing here again!

Have to say my favourite course of the year so far. Great links course, some lovely holes, and greens to die for. I can only imagine how quick they must be in the height of summer.

The 4th hole is as intimidating a tee shot as you'll get - the prom path to your left, literally yards away with lots of people out for a stroll. You really don't want to hook it!!

Its a very flat course but enough bumps and hollows to make it a real links test. Some deep riveted bunkers too, but nice sand if you do land in one. Last 3 holes are excellent finishing holes but the 7th was my favourite, a lovely dog leg with a really inviting 2nd shot.

I've not played many links courses but this is up there with the best of them.

Good practice facilities for a warm up, and nice bar with a balcony to overlook the par 3 18th.

All in all a brilliant course - I will be going back.

More like 7.5 but not quite an 8 for me, the course opens with a short par 4 with some deep bunkers to avoid then through the wall for nice views of the sea and lighthouse. The first few holes are the most enjoyable, its quite a challenge teeing off on the long 4th with the busy coastal path adjacent, and the tee box clearly aims away from the danger zone. The rest of the front 9 is good, the back nine was ok but didn't feel quite so linksy (have i invented a new word there?) and not as interesting as the early holes. Greens were great, very true roll, but not quite as fast as i would have liked.

Testing Links Golf

Average rating

11th April, 2016, by TJM

Leasowe Golf Club is a fairly flat links course on the Wirral peninsula.

Although the course is predominantly a flat course with few trees, the course does have some very testing features.

The course has some very intimidating out of bounds on holes, particularly when you have pedestrians and on-lookers on the walls. Bare lies around the greens, tight fairways and thick rough can destroy a good round.

Although I didn't enter into the club house, the bar and balcony overlook the 18th and another green, which when full can prove fairly intimidating and even add an extra boggey to your round.

Leasowe is not an easy round, it will test your accuracy and mental strength, yet in better weather this course is worth a visit.

I played this course after some on the wettest weather on record. Most courses are closed in the area yet Leasowe was not only open, it was dry and in excellent condition.

The course has well defined fairways and greens as smooth as could be expected after the terrible weather. The club is making a few changes to the course and i think they will add to an already excellent course.

I would say this is a good course to play in the summer and a superb course to play in the winter.

Considering the weather we have recently had, the curse has held up well. I played the course on recommendation and was told the greens especially were good. Good!?! Nothing could be further from the truth, the greens were immaculate and some of the best I've ever played. The green keepers deserve all the credit in the world. The course too is set up great. With a bit of work going on on the third hole but it in no way effects the experience of playing such a good course.
I would highly recommend..
