We are situated on the beautiful Fylde Coast in the lovely resort of Lytham in the North West of England. We are part of England's famous "Golf Coast" which has 20 of the most acclaimed golf courses in the country. Our club, founded in 1913, is an easy walking pleasant 'Parkland Course' with no strenuous hills, although buggies and pull trolleys are available for hire if needed. The course is ideal for all handicaps as it is particularly testing with rewards for the more venturous player but has allowances for shots by those of less ability.
Our Half-Way House is always stocked with a range of hot & cold refreshments and quick snacks to prepare you for the tougher back nine.
'Green Drive' has a reputation as probably the friendliest and most sociable golf club on the Fylde. This reputation is gained over many years by feedback from visitors and guests alike.
You can be assured that a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere awaits you before and after the perfect round of golf

    30th July 2014

The Teeuplo Tour led us back up the M6 for a visit to the self proclaimed 'Golf Coast', this time we were visitors to Lytham Green Drive Golf Club.

The area is synomynous with links golf and boasts the Open Championship venue at Royal Lytham St Annes which is situated just a mile down the road. Lytham Green Drive however is a parkland course and one of quality.

On arrival we were greeted by a very warm welcome from the management team and a quick check in to the pro shop introduced us to the professional staff, then it was across the practice putting green and onto the 1st tee. I can imagine it to be a nerve racking experience on a busy day as it is situated only yards from the putting area and in full view of the traditional clubhouse, with its glass fronted clubhouse filled with an audience awaiting your first shot of the day! Fortunately for me it was a quiet morning and the pressure was off!

It is a nice opening hole, a par 4 which makes its way from left to right. Following a decent enough drive I was soon to learn that although this was parkland in layout it very much played firm into the greens as you would expect from a links. We had experienced some very dry weather so I am not sure this is always the case. I found myself hitting the remainder of approaches a club short and allowing them to release to the green or at least that is what I tried to do.

One of my favourite holes on the front nine was the 4th, a fairly short par 4 with a tight tee shot that was framed by large trees both left and right. If you did find a good positon from the tee you would be faced with a short iron into a small green protected by bunkers and a narrow brook that run across the fron of the green. One thing a noted was the great richness in colour of the greens, they were in excellent condition and had no doubt been well attended to in the recent weeks of dry weather, these were lush dark green and rolled true, I would imagine they could get them playing a little faster for the weekend competitions if they chose to.

The 6th hole is a nice par 3 playing around 175 yds into a green that is surrounded by 7 bunkers, I did not manage to avoid them, however the bunkers were very consistent, very well maintained and a real feature of the golf course. The course is littered with bunkers which are all fairly small with relatively steep face. I loved both the 8th and 9th holes, again both tight of the tee and greens are small targets, the main difference between the 2 holes and there respective stroke index was in length, the 9th played 450yds and stands as stroke index 1, on the day we played was into a headwind so it takes two of your best to get up in regulation.

The back nine starts with another lengthy par 4, again around the 450yds (stroke 4) region and into a small target, one of the main features of the golf course is the size of the greens, they are all small targets and require accurate iron play or you will be visiting a number of the aforementioned bunkers. The 13th is another par 3 which is looking great from the tee, it plays around 150 and the green has bunkers both left and right and in the front is a small pond awaiting your ball. The course finishes with a nice par 5, OB runs parallel to the roadside on the right and continues all the way to the green, well placed bunkers await the drive and the entance to the green is very narrow with bunkers surrounding.

The condition of the course was excellent, the fairways looked 'Wentworth like' in their appearance with the accurately mowed patterns running through them. The definition throughout fairways, greens, fringes and aprons all add to the visual experience and this is the detail that seperates the quality of golf courses. Attention to detail was apparent and my congratulations goes to the green staff.

The Fylde coast has some great options for golf and Lytham Green Drive is one of them, it is nice to have a parkland course thrown into the mix in this traditionally links area, If you are considering a weekend away then I would certainly look at Lytham as a superb area for golf lovers, the variety of courses is excellent and each offers a warm welcome.

Played Lytham Green Drive recently, very impressed with the course, what makes it hard are the small greens and the variants on the way they run. Fairways are undulating and there is water that does come into play. Would definitely play again

Played this course on Sunday 16 August with Cargill golf society. We only paid £30 which was a special deal that was on because the Walker Cup was being played at Royal Lytham. The course was in excellent condition. The fairways were like carpets and the greens very lush like snooker tables. All in all a superb course.

I have been a member at Green Drive for 15 years, and always enjoy my rounds here.

Best when the ground is driest in the mid-summer months, this is a completely flat and easy-walking course, with notably small greens making accuracy paramount.

With only 2 par 5s, and a number of difficult par 3s and 4s, playing to your handicap is achievable on a good day, but stray off line and the many trees and hazards will inevitably take their toll on your score.

Outside the summer months, the ground conditions can become a little on the soft side, but drainage work over the past few years has improved the course considerably.

An excellent choice for a Society day out.

This is a relatively new course but looks like its been there forever. The course is very interesting and offers a real treat for all golfers.
The holes are all different and the greens are great. The only drawback is that it can become boggy when it rains. This is the only fault i can find with this place.

Love playing this course, greens are good and it's a beautiful walk. Some very tough par 4s, in particular 9, 10 and 14. They offer some great value over the summer hosting some really good opens.

Gets some stick for drainage but it's unfair as vastly improved in recent times.
Studio facilities are as good as have seen.
