The 18 hole, 6,882 -yard, par-71 course was created out of 150 acres of Cheshire parkland in 1934. The surrounding mature trees, rhododendron bushes and the lakeside setting add considerable charm, and provide challenging hazards on this Cheshire golf course. Water, ravines and thick vegetation have been incorporated into the layout so that care and accuracy are demanded both off the tees and on the greens.
To prepare for the challenges of The Mere's golf course, we offer players a unique, floating golf ball driving range, two-tier pitching green, putting green and bunker practice area where players can warm up before a round.

Nice course, very challenging but a really enjoyable round, hospitality was excellent with are deal providing range balls and a few extra bacon rolls so value for money was good. Overall I would give the whole experience 8/10

Played 6th August. Excellent course with some fantastic holes, the back 9 is a great challenge. Well worth the money and will be added on to our calendar next year as a possible major event. Staff all very welcoming, driving range is a little strange hitting in to the lake( but the lads enjoyed it).

A good course that was not in great nick on the day. Fairways had duck droppings everywhere and greens had lines in them. However they did run true enough despite this. Facilities and hospitality were as good as ever.

I had a great game of golf here yesterday with the Swingers society.
The course was in a great condition but the greens could do with a little more work on them .
Overall a great course with great facilities.

Words cannot describe how good this course is, stunning views with the back 9 trickier than the front 9, a must play in the north west of England, be prepared to spend a little extra is playing peak season but worth the pennies to play a fantastic course.

Nice facilities, nice and friendly welcome. The driving range is into the lake so all the balls float, something a little different to the norm.
Really enjoyed the course and the setup. The greens were excellent, fairways all good and the rough wasn't to harsh.
The downside were the bunkers. They were terrible. That not great for a course that has so many! Most had loads of stones in and no sand in the bottom of the trap but too much at the sides. We had several balls just stop on steep slopes in the bunkers making the next shot impossible. When you did find the bottom of the bunker it was rock hard and not easy to play out of. This left a sour taste in the mouth on what could have been a great course, especially having paid £40 for the pleasure

We had an impressive start to our Masters Sunday driver, with our clubs being taken at the gate and presented to us on the tee. The rest of the weekend was disappointing apart from Danny Willett's exploits.
The resort smacks of money and the course is interesting with some good holes. When we played on Sunday the greens were well worn with many holes damaged from heavy traffic. Monday same holes more traffic even Spieth would have struggled. Quite the worst greens we have played on in 5 years of Sunday drivers and the most expensive. Without the the amenities this course rated alongside some Municipal courses I have played. Really disapponted.

The first thing you notice about The Mere is that the place just oozes `money` and with famous footballers walking through the doors on a regular basis, and their partners enjoying the restaurant and spa, it has a touch of the "Cheshire Housewives" feel to it - which is good and bad in equal measure. The properties surrounding the course are also a constant reminder that this place is built as a millionaires paradise.

The clubhouse is part of the hotel complex and is comparable with anything you would find at a top venue in the UK. Contemporary and classy layout and feel and everything is just perfectly set up to make any golfing visit special.

The practice facilities are a bit cramped with a small putting green and a pitching area that has been squeezed in and I feel that these could do with improvement to take it to a higher golfing level. The driving range into the water is novel touch [floating balls] but once you`ve hit one or two, the novelty wears off and you start to want to hit to fixed targets to get your pre round distances dialled in.

The course is true parkland and in parts has a lovely feel to it. Its well kept throughout with the only criticism being some of the bunkers were uneven with sand.

The greens were exceptional. Quick and smooth with subtle breaks and made the day tricky if you didn`t get a grip of them early.

However, despite the grandeur of The Mere, the course layout is a little bit of a let down. There isn`t really a "stand out" hole and sections of it seem a little mundane. The 17th and 18th are about as interesting as the course gets.
However, it is by no means dour; its just that with the rest of the complex and set up, you expect something a little bit more memorable.

The price to play isn`t cheap and the prices once there are in keeping with the clientele in general. Therefore, for the average golfer wanting to play on the final courses it ticks plenty of boxes but comes away with a few niggling negatives.

I can`t help but feel that if this place committed to the golf 100% then it would quite simply run places like The Belfry close. But it`s a bit like someone wearing a £2000 suit and putting on a pair of Next shoes.

Worth a visit, but you will come away wanting it to give you a little bit more back.

The Mere is another fine Cheshire course situated in a resort environment.

The course is really nice with every hole playing different and the back 9 being the more interesting. There was a brief point in the round were I did say to my playing partner that it didn't feel special. I don't quite know what was missing but for the premium price I expected just a little more but there was nothing wrong with the place at all.

Greens were like glass and rolled true. Fairways were good and the bunkers i found were sandy and well presented.

No doubt this is a tough track for the shorter hitters and those not so straight will struggle as the leaves fall during the autumn.

Overall I like me it, enjoyed the round and would probably play again I think. I just can't put my finger on what needs improving though to make this good course excellent.

Well it was a stunning early October, truly blessed with the weather. Calm and warm.
The resort is obviously large and eventually finding my way to the bar for a pre round bacon butty and cuppa and the day was set.
The course itself is good, but a bit of same old same old in terms of other resort courses, its lovely nonethless though. What really set it aside was the quality. Tees and fairways kept immaculate and well, the greens, quite simply the best i've played in a long time. They were absolutely lightning fast, was a complete shock and took some time to adjust. But once the speed was dialled in, they were so true it was a pleasure to putt on it really was.
Facilities are good, two putting greens with one to chip on. Driving range over the lake. And being a resort plenty of places to eat, including the halfway house which does soups, sandwiches and even alcohol if you're playing that bad.

Overall it's pricey yes, being a huge complex the service isn't particularly personable which i don't mind, but i was there to play golf, and the course was in stunning condition. Well done Mere. Well done.

Arrived today to play this course in lovely sunshine. The fairways were quite rough , the greens not as good as you would expect this time of year. No hole really stood out . Also the round was spoiled by slow play . It was a five hour round which is not acceptable. I certainly will be in no rush to go back again.

Arrived as part of a society day and met with a warm welcome in lovely surroundings.

Interesting warm up facilities as the driving range means hitting balls directly into the lake which is very unusual.

The course itself is classic parkland layout and is good without being great, nothing that I would really complain about but little to rave about either, interestingly I had played the course 5 years ago and remembered very little which I think is due to the fact the course does not have any real stand out holes. I struggle to understand how this was an Open qualifying venue this year?

The only memory I will take from the course is the attitude of the group in front which I am told included the Club Captain, the speed of play was a 5 hour round a fact that when raised with the group seemed to fall on deaf ears as being club captain must mean you are above golf etiquette in terms of allowing a group to play through which is common courtesy, for me the group epitomised what is wrong with the game of golf and why participation numbers are falling, inexcusable idiots like these people need eradicating from the game, rude, obnoxious and ignorant.

Now that's of my chest, summary decent track, good condition just keep an eye on the start sheet and don't get stuck behind the club captain and his cronies.

Played here in June 2015 on the day after Open qualifying. The course was presented in excellent condition with true fast greens.

The course is demanding both in terms of length and also shot-making with many of the holes requiring a draw or fade off the tee. There are also many water hazards to negotiate on the way round.

Practice facilities are unusual, with the driving range involving hitting floating balls into a lake.

Off course, there is a high-quality set up incorporating a hotel, spa etc, with excellent catering facilities.

As resort courses go, this is one of the better examples, and well worth a visit.

Played this course on a wet and windy day however the course for the time of year was in very good condition and would expect it to be fantastic in warmer weather which is why I will return later in the year. Challenging course with holes that are testing for varying reasons and you'd need to drive the ball well both in length and positioning to be able to score well around here, a test for golfers of every level. The facilities all-round are fantastic. Highly recommended.

Played here and Chester golf club, the hotel set up at Mere is lovely, has a superb spa area for the wife, while I go and play golf! This course is hosting regional qualifying for the Open soon so was in top condition. It has some lovely holes, really picturesque with some nice water features. Greens were really quick. The whole place has a slightly corporate feel to it as some of these resorts do and maybe not the personal service you get at members clubs, but very nice all the same.
