Nefyn – ‘a view from the sea from every tee’
Nefyn’s 27 hole Championship layout, including its world-famous, iconic ‘Point’, offers golfers a rich variety of challenges and rewards. From the start, golfers are faced with spectacularly located tees, fairways which hug the rugged coastline and greens perched precariously close to the shoreline.
The ? Course ( yds) opens with three testing par 4s along the shoreline, a par 3 played from a narrow promontory to a closely bunkered green before heading inland via a par 4 requiring two exceptionally well struck shots to reach the narrowly contoured green and a par 3 which can play anything from a 7 iron to a 3 wood depending on conditions!
The ? Course ( yds) is situated on one of the Uk’s most unique golfing locations. Each of the holes offers a different challenge, whether it’s shot- making or just resisting admiring the view! From the 1st requiring an accurate short iron to a hilltop green, the 3rd demanding pin-point accuracy with an iron to a green cut in the hillside, the 4th with its 200 yard carry over the bay or the demanding par 5 8th hole where the sea is never more than a matter of yards away, it’s a never-to-be forgotten experience whatever your score.
The ? Course ( yds) set on the inland section of the course opens with a lengthy par 4 followed by a well bunkered par 3 where the pin position makes par a real challenge. Thereafter, a series of par 4s, including the demanding two shot 6th hole around the estuary and a genuine 3 shot par 5, brings the golfer back to the panoramic location of the 9th tee heading for the clubhouse.

    Stunning views and windy golf

    Average rating

This is a course that has stunning views from tee to green, but with these great seaside views comes strong winds that are ready to destroy your round at any given time. You will have to change your tactics and shot type in order to have a good round.

The wind doesn't just take from your round however, it also helps you hit greens and long drives from 5 to 8. On these holes you are helped by the wind and club choice is key.

In general greens are well protected and fairways are backed up by thick rough, which means your tee shot can be vital.

I found this course to be very much a tale of two courses. I feel the first half gives golfers a fair chance to get a solid round started, however the second half (old course) into the wind is a much toucher task. A task not helped by pedestrians within driving range, watching on from the public footpath which runs throughout the back 9.

We enjoyed our visit to this famous track. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the facilities were in good condition. This course is well worth a visit!

By far the best views of all the courses iv played. We had a sunny day with no wind and it still played hard. Can't imagine how hard it is on a windy day. Staff very friendly. Its made up of 3 x nine hole courses, i think one 18 hole and a nine would have been better.
I was just pleased to get a good tee shot off on the first! Its a must for all golfers.

Great links course, particularly if you play out onto the headland.

First course I visited that had a wind speed meter in the clubhouse which tells you all you need to know. Relatively easy in benign conditions, but is a brute in the wind.

Played here in May 2016 in a competition consisting of 4 balls on a dry but very windy day.

Overall this course is good fun with some great views but with the new configuration on The Point this now gives 5 par 3s in the last 10 holes. Coupled with the constant flow of non-golfing walkers there, you end up with a very slow, stop-start 5 hour round.

Given the strength of the wind, a couple of the greens were simply too fast, making it impossible to keep the ball on the green. The worst case of this was the par 3 9th where a simple chip up to the pin landed 5 feet short and promptly rolled back 30 yards off the green.

Overall, this is a fun rather than a serious golf course, and worth a visit if in the area.

    Nefyn and the Point

A group of us played Nefyn in early April at short notice when our original choice was closed. Given that they had less than an hours notice the staff were great and we were made to feel most welcome.

Although it was a bright clear day it was also not just windy but at time almost impossible. Despite this the course played well and despite heavy rain was very dry.

We played the Point and although some had played it before the consensus was that the changes that had been made due to weather damage made it a far better set of holes.

The overly punishing par 4 with 2 blind shots onto sloping fairways is no loss and the new holes are both testing and fair. The views are spectacular as always and only the blind shot to the 10th green spoils it. The 10th is a great hole but unless you have played it a number of times finding the green (or in many cases just finding your ball) is difficult.

Overall a great days golf and a very welcoming club

Love this course, has spectacular views and the much photographed peninsular is a unique place to play golf.

The condition was ok for time of year and food on the clubhouse was very good.

Played here on a three day break, the golf course is very playable consists of 3 nines the old course is the nine that has the headland on it and is a must play, greens were OK for time of year, enjoyed it, although experience was somewhat spoilt by the pro who was ignorant, we ate in clubhouse and the welcome was a lot better.

Played sunday13/9/2015 and was more difficult due to public footpath through the course and masses of walkers who were oblivious to how dangerous it is to disregard the golfers and their own safety!Extremely difficult holes skirting the sea in places with a medium wind playing havoc as well.Worth a visit but take plenty of balls

Played this course in the first week in September. The weather was fine and whilst the satnav tries to send you to an area different to the course if you follow the signs it is fairly easy to find.
The course itself is well laid out with a fair mixture of long and short holes of varying difficulty that keeps the average golfer interested throughout. We played the course on a moderately windy day and this increased the difficulty quite a bit. Scenery was spectacular throughout. The greens had just been sanded and were still fast and it was necessary to pitch short to keep the ball on the greens. If you get the chance play the 9 holes on the peninsular. These are much harder than the the course itself (not helped by lack of yardage markers!) and of course call in at the Cock Inn for a pint on your way round. All in all good value and a fair links course for the price.

Played here during Easter week. The course is really interesting and not too difficult. The 9 holes on the peninsula are quite spectacular, but are spoilt by the continuous stream of pedestrians walking thru the course.

I really liked this course because it is so unique and so close to the sea, the last 8 holes on the Old course are very special. The front 10 are good but everyone talks about the ‘lighthouse’ hole or the ‘blow’ hole. When we played the greens were in a very poor state, also there was a large amount of holiday goers wandering up from the beach so it was somewhat dangerous and it did hold up the pace of play. Overall though the layout, welcome and food was excellent.

A weeks holiday in Abersoch, North Wales allowed me to play this wonderful golf course. It was a little windy and at a handicap of 19, I found it a little tough at times. Nevertheless I enjoyed it very much, the views are wonderful and the food in the clubhouse

This course is perched on the Llyn peninsula and stretches out into the Irish sea. Some of the holes are simply breath taking. The course itself was in great condition and I really enjoyed my round, interesting pathway to the beach through the course which leads to a well known pub, I nearly stopped off for a pint on the way round.
