This might not be the most picturesque golf course you'll ever play as you have to tee off across the Newcastle race course on four occasions with your tee shot but don't let this put you off because their are some fantastic holes to be played with a mixture of short& long par fours.
The first 9 holes are where you need to score if you have a westerly wind with three par 5s in reach for the bigger hitters. In my view the best holes are from the 12th tee onwards where you really need to be on your game, if you hit most fairways don't relax for one minute as when you get on the large greens this is when the fun can start with extremely quick greens and subtle burrows it's not unusual to see someone in your group four putt.
Beware of bunkers in driving range as they are deep and most of the time you have to take your punishment by being sensible.

You can also play off the back tees which makes the course much more demanding and when you walk off the 18th green you'll probably not have scored as good as you think you have played as its a real test of golf and not just a slog.

The facilities are good with modern showers towels are provided either before or after you play and even hair driers if you have hair that is!!!

There is a large practice area where tokens can be purchased behind the bar, also you can hire push trolleys again tokens from behind the bar, buggies are available but there are only four so booking in advance might be a good idea.

The putting green will give you a good idea of what lies ahead on the course regarding pace, and subtle slopes.

The 18th green is right in front of the clubhouse and you won't be the first to hit the windows with your 2nd or 3rd shot depending on your drive.
The staff are very friendly and snacks are available in the main lounge, depending on what time you play you can dine in the main dining are but check on what attire may be needed.

The secretary's office will only be to glad to help you making your game of golf more enjoyable, I'm sure you'll come back again once you've tried to beat the course.

I was lucky enough to play this course for free as part of a society day and what a pleasure it was.

The course was in excellent condition, superbly cut and the greens were of the highest quality. The course offered a good challenge without being ridiculous.

I think everyone in the north east should play this course at least once the only thing that would put me off playing again is the high price.

The clubhouse unfortunately suffers from a high degree of snobbiness and outsiders were not welcomed with open arms. However I would not let that put you off.
