We offer a warm welcome to visitors and treat them as members for the day.

Our Club was founded in 1899 and is now a 6,533 yard par 70 played over flat and easy walking heathland terrain. Well off the beaten track but not far from the historic market town of Ormskirk our course occupies a 125 acre site which was originally the Old Deer Park of Lathom House. Difficult to find maybe, but once here the isolation from traffic noise, housing and the general 21st century hurly burly our Members and Visitors can enjoy a relaxing round of golf in mature and immaculate parkland surroundings.

Over the years, we have been a venue used for many Regional Open Qualifying events, many County Matches and as recently as this year we have hosted the Lancashire Amateur County Championship and the Professional Golfers Association Lancashire Strokeplay Championship, both to considerable acclaim.

2017 is a massive occasion as the Open returns to our close neighbour Royal Birkdale, and being situated only 7 miles from the coast it is our intention to release as many tee times as possible during this period so that Visitors can enjoy a quality round of golf in between watching the Professionals navigate their way around the magnificent links that is Royal Birkdale. Please visit our new online booking system to check out the amazing value and make your arrangements.

We took Bunkers Golf Society to Ormskirk Golf Club for what was one of the most anticipated days of the season and it did not disappoint.

On arrival we were met by a meeter and greeter from the club which was a nice touch and introduced to the club manager and professional and given a few tips about how to play the course. The club house is grand and impressive and has a lovely terrace that overlooks the course which was in stunning condition.

Initial impressions were extremely positive and the fact that the practice area was all within touching distance of the clubhouse and looked sensationally well-manicured set a very good tone immediately with all of our group. A large practice ground, a warm up net, pitching green and bunkers and a practice green that reflected the quality and pace of the course.
The pro shop was sell stocked and reasonably priced and we set off on our round looking forward to what was in store.

The course is a superb layout that meanders through well-established woodland and parkland and has elements of heathland about it. Its clear from the outset why this place is used for Open regional qualifying. Every single hole has something different to offer and despite some of them not looking tricky on the scorecard, there are some really tough holes that require plenty of thought and consideration for the well placed bunkers and natural hazards. One in particular being the very short 130 yard 14th hole that we designated as nearest the pin on the day. Despite the yardage, not many players found the well protected green as it was a 2 shot wind that was disguised by the high, mature trees surrounding the green. A great gold hole.

The greens were smooth and true and despite being a little slower than some of us expected, they were a joy to putt on. I actually prefer this type of green where you can be confident with your stroke as opposed to tentative. The bunkers were all well stocked and immaculately raked throughout and the general condition of the course was exceptional.

Special mention must go to the fairways and green canopies/surrounds. They were genuinely like axeminster carpet. Soft and fluffy and in pristine condition that made them easy on the eye and even easier to play from. Aside from top venues such as Hillside, The Brabazon and Gleneagles I havent played off such well-produced fairway grass.

The course is tough, but fair as long as you miss in the right places. Anything wayward and the rough and overgrowth is penal, as you would expect. The second cut of the well-defined rough was deep and unforgiving and heavily reduced a players chance of attacking the pins. The course was in full bloom for our visit on a sunny and warm Friday in August and will no doubt go down this season as one of the best courses we have visited as a society and Im sure a red hot favourite for a re-visit in 2017.

Afterwards we enjoyed a pint and soup and sandwiches on the terrace and marvelled between ourselves about the course. The staff were extremely warm and welcoming and very polity and professional and the prices in the bar were good. In fact, a lot of courses could learn from Ormskirk Golf Club. They are clearly a superb club that has a fabulous reputation and rich history and yet, despite this, they dont over charge for visiting groups. We paid less than 40 to visit with a snack and I think that this is exceptional value for money from such a well-established and revered local course. It makes me, as a society organiser, want to invest our members money into the course and build up a relationship with them so we can continue to visit year on year. Everyone wins and I dont understand this desire for clubs to over price themselves from most groups, especially at these quieter times of the week. As a society, we pay a premium to visit the better courses in our area and as a group we have made a decision to do this, but some courses have not delivered the quality all round package to justify the price Ormskirk certainly doesnt have this problem and every credit to them.

If your local, or visiting Englands Golf Coast in Southport, then put this place on your list to visit. You will not be disappointed and you will also not feel your pockets being emptied at the same time either! Superb club and course.

Played here with bunkers golf society on 25/6/17.

This was the second time i had played here and was very much looking forward to it. The course is truely stunning every hole is in immaculate condition from the tee boxes to the well manicured fairways to the perfect greens its hard to say a bad work about it! This i a very tough and challanging course where accuracy off the tee is a must, but not only that you do need to hit it a good distance off the tee as most of the par 4s are between 400-470 i think.
To score well around this golf course you also must manage the tricky par 3s were in my case if you miss on the wrong side you have to really heavily on your short game.
The green staff do a great job in presenting this golf course and if you get the chance i highly recommend a visit.

Played here with the Bunkers golf society on 25/06/2017. Having played the course once before my expectations where high as it was immaculate last time. This time it didn't disappoint again the course is in great condition tees, fairways and greens can't be faulted. The rough is extremely punishing any wayward shots might not be found even slightly off the fairway which is tough but if you keep it in the fairway you don't have to worry. The staff as always where very helpful and friendly and made us all feel very welcome. Great course can't wait to play again someday.

    I play off 20.
Played here with Bunkers Golf Society in June 2017. I was met at the pro shop by the starter who was very informative all aspects of the course explained and addressed the society prior to teeing off with a few jokes thrown in for free.
On to the tee each and every tee block in great condition, the course was immaculate and very stunning to the eye. Greens very good as always. Need to be in play on this course to get a good score! Some great par 3's a must play course.
Presentation was upstairs with a tasty soup and sandwiches to follow ! Thanks for a great day again

Our 2nd visit to this lovely well maintained course hidden in the surrounds of Ormskirk. A bunkers MAJOR event held here for the 1st time and it was a pleasure to be involved once again on this brilliant track. Clean fairways, tricky holes and smooth greens made for a fantastic event once again at Ormskirk GC. We hope to be back here again next year.

Some light rain awaited the Boys of the bunkers golf society on our arrival to Ormskirk Golf Club. Not even a wet start could dampen the spirits when playing Ormskirk a true hidden gem!. A warm welcome was had by all and the boys warmed up on the superb practice area. Off to the 1st and still light rain over head we went about tackling the front 9. The 1st 9 had some very challenging long par 4s and some well thought out shorter ones. The back 9 cuts into the forest and has some stunning views and tee shots. The weather now was as good as the golf course witch was a joy to play. The 18th is a monster of a finishing hole a par 4 playing back to the club house of well over 400 yards and into wind 5 here is a great finish to a great course. Recommend Ormskirk Golf Club to all Teeuplo readers get out and experience it for yourselves you'll not be disappointed.

I love this little Lancashire course. Hidden away so many don't even know it's there the course is one of the toughest courses around but just so enjoyable.

I reviewed this course last year and what was said then still stands, from the meet and greet to the welcoming bar it's just a very very good golf club.

The course layout is interesting, there are no up and down holes and if like me you often play from the adjacent fairway then forget it, every hole is pretty much self contained.

Fairways are perfect and the rough is punishing, maybe a little too much so for many? The greens were good but quite slow and maybe the rain had played its part in that. They rolled very well though.

Overall I just really enjoy playing golf here and I really hope that we are invited back year on year to this superb course.

Played this course yesterday for our second Major of the year, It was kindly sponsored by Barry Taylor PGA at Clarkes Golf Shop Rainford, Thank you Barry for your Generosity had a deal that include soup and sandwiches after play, which was excellent. I last played this course some 20 years ago and its still one of the best in Lancashire, we had a meet and greet on arrival and I had a nice chat with the Golf shop PGA, the shop is well stocked. The course was well presented, with well defined fairways. We had some rain before play which made the rough even more difficult to escape from, I had the misfortune to land in a couple of Bunkers, but they did not pose too much of a problem despite the recent rain, although the sand was a little compacted due to the early rain. It is great course just like I remembered it. I hope it is on our fixture list for next year. Thank you Ormskirk GC

I arrived at this magnificent club in the company of my friends and colleagues from Bunkers Golf Society.
We were very warmly welcomed by the club`s "Greeter" who courteously and very professionally ensured that we were informed about all the necessary arrangements for the day.
We then ventured out onto the immaculate putting green and practice area to ready ourselves for our second Major of the year, The High Tee Open.
Whilst we prepared, the "Greeter" morphed into the "Starter" and was there to set us off on the first hole of this magnificent layout.
The fairways were a delight and the rough was punishing. The greens were medium quick (after some early morning rain) and the sun was shining.
After our round we were welcomed into the comfortable spike bar to enjoy a good range of beverages and await the service of our soup and sandwiches (which, when served were delicious!)
This is a course which has rightly earned a fine reputation and one which I am sure we will be returning to in the years ahead.

Great course, fairways and tee's immaculate, greens the same and running great. Bunkers a little hard but it had been raining overnight. Fairways tight, especially the front 9,short and in play better than wide as rough is punishing.

Club house staff very friendly and was a great touch from the club to have someone meet and greet everyone and see everyone off the first tee. A must play if you get the chance.

What a wonderful set up they have at Ormskirk Golf Club.
From being greeted on arrival to driving out of the car park it was a brilliant day.
The course is tight, tree lined with carpet like fairways and true first and second cuts of rough. The fairways and greens are perfectly bunkered and every shot requires some thought. Bad weather probably meant the greens weren't at their best but very forgiveable given the wet weather leading up to our visit.
The par 3's are little gems, playing much harder than their yardage suggests and a couple of long par 4's keep you on your toes.
A really great day and can't wait to return.

Played here on Friday 5th August with the Bunkers golf society and having for years heard only good things about Ormskirk but never getting chance to play it until now I was looking forward to it.

We were greeted on arrival by friendly staff and then one of the members who explained where everything around the course was and how the course was playing.

The course has a great layout with holes ranging from 100 yard tricky par 3's to 450+ par4's and longer par 5's a challenge for any golfing ability as a missed fairway is punished with heavy rough and mature trees lining every fairway.

The greens were true however a little slower than they appeared which was no issue after the first few holes as they were a consistent pace throughout.

The after round food was really nice and drinks reasonably priced.

I can't wait to get a chance to play this course again one if not the best course around.

I played here as part of Bunkers Golf Societies visit.

What a fantastic course this is, stunning layout with several standout holes. The fairways were exceptional, not a divot mark to be found. The course is very tight with its tree lined fairways looking fantastic off just about every tee box.

My only criticism would be the greens were not quite as good as the rest of the course, a little bobbly at times but i'm sure this is due, in part, to the horrendous weather over the previous months.

The staff and members we encountered couldn't have been friendlier and served us delicious soup and sandwiches post round.

If you are thinking of trying this place out, do not hesitate. Fantastic golf club.

I play off 19. Visited this course at the beginning of August 2016 with Bunkers golf Society. Perfect golf conditions always help it was a warm sunny day. This course is well maintained perfect fairways and the layout is perfect. You will get punished if you miss the fairway. Each hole is different from the last and a selection of short par 3's that you will do well to find better anywhere !!! Can't compliment the course enough. Greens a little slower than expected but still very true which allows you to have a good go at the putt. Nice selection of food afterwards and price of food and drinks very reasonable. Great hospitality and I can't recommend this course enough ! First on my list to play again next season. Thanks.

I visited with Bunkers Golf Society on a sunny August day and was unbelievably impressed with this course.

The warm welcome was a nice touch and set the tone for the day. The course is absolutely immaculate with fairways that resemble what some other courses would produce for greens!!! They were just unreal.

The greens were smooth and true and the ball rolled wonderfully on them. Bunkers all stocked and maintained well and the general presentation of the course was outstanding throughout.

The layout is interesting and makes great use of the natural land shape and features. No two holes can be described as similar and there is no real 'bog standard holes' with everyone being a new challenge. The front 9 is longer than the back, which requires a bit more consideration on where to position your tee shots and approaches.

The course is very mature woodland/parkland and the trees provide a stunning backdrop to plenty of the holes. There is no doubt that Ormskirk is a premium course in the local area and despite this they offer a very reasonable visitors rate.

The post round food was tasty and the bar prices very competitive. I literally can fault nothing about the club whatsoever and hope that Bunkers Golf Society can continue to visit every year.

    Quality parkland layout

I have played here a number of times over the years, and visited most recently in July 2016.

Make no mistake, this course is a very high quality parkland layout, and presents a decent challenge off the white tees.

The front 9 is much the longer of the two nines, with several long testing par 4s, one par 5 and a par 3. The back 9 is around 700 yards shorter, and features 3 difficult mid-length par 3s, which all play longer than the yardage on the card, and are protected by difficult pin positions and bunkers.

The greens were not at their best on my most recent visit, being quite slow after recent rain. The fairways however were very good, and have a great feel to them.

Unless you are a biggish hitter, most of the par 4s are out of reach in two shots. Yellow tees are only around 200 yards shorter so unless the course is dry, it does play pretty long.

Overall, one of the best parkland courses in Lancashire, and well worth a visit.

Very nice course set in the West Lancs countryside. Very nice welcome from the 'meet & greet' member. Nice practice area near the Pro shop with tubes ofballs available to hit. Only thing is you need to pick them up yourself, can't complain when there isn't a charge!

It is a lovely mature course with tree lined fairways, which makes straight hitting essential. It's not a long course off the yellows with only 2 par 5's and quite a few shortish par 4's where driver isn't needed.

Course was in good condition, however the greens had recently been hollow tined which affected the trueness of the roll. This is the only reason I've marked the greens lower, however i do fully understand the necessity of this process to keep them in good condition year round.

    Will definitely return
