We offer a warm welcome to visitors and treat them as members for the day.

Our Club was founded in 1899 and is now a 6,533 yard par 70 played over flat and easy walking heathland terrain. Well off the beaten track but not far from the historic market town of Ormskirk our course occupies a 125 acre site which was originally the Old Deer Park of Lathom House. Difficult to find maybe, but once here the isolation from traffic noise, housing and the general 21st century hurly burly our Members and Visitors can enjoy a relaxing round of golf in mature and immaculate parkland surroundings.

Over the years, we have been a venue used for many Regional Open Qualifying events, many County Matches and as recently as this year we have hosted the Lancashire Amateur County Championship and the Professional Golfers Association Lancashire Strokeplay Championship, both to considerable acclaim.

2017 is a massive occasion as the Open returns to our close neighbour Royal Birkdale, and being situated only 7 miles from the coast it is our intention to release as many tee times as possible during this period so that Visitors can enjoy a quality round of golf in between watching the Professionals navigate their way around the magnificent links that is Royal Birkdale. Please visit our new online booking system to check out the amazing value and make your arrangements.

We took Bunkers Golf Society to Ormskirk Golf Club for what was one of the most anticipated days of the season and it did not disappoint.

On arrival we were met by a meeter and greeter from the club which was a nice touch and introduced to the club manager and professional and given a few tips about how to play the course. The club house is grand and impressive and has a lovely terrace that overlooks the course which was in stunning condition.

Initial impressions were extremely positive and the fact that the practice area was all within touching distance of the clubhouse and looked sensationally well-manicured set a very good tone immediately with all of our group. A large practice ground, a warm up net, pitching green and bunkers and a practice green that reflected the quality and pace of the course.
The pro shop was sell stocked and reasonably priced and we set off on our round looking forward to what was in store.

The course is a superb layout that meanders through well-established woodland and parkland and has elements of heathland about it. Its clear from the outset why this place is used for Open regional qualifying. Every single hole has something different to offer and despite some of them not looking tricky on the scorecard, there are some really tough holes that require plenty of thought and consideration for the well placed bunkers and natural hazards. One in particular being the very short 130 yard 14th hole that we designated as nearest the pin on the day. Despite the yardage, not many players found the well protected green as it was a 2 shot wind that was disguised by the high, mature trees surrounding the green. A great gold hole.

The greens were smooth and true and despite being a little slower than some of us expected, they were a joy to putt on. I actually prefer this type of green where you can be confident with your stroke as opposed to tentative. The bunkers were all well stocked and immaculately raked throughout and the general condition of the course was exceptional.

Special mention must go to the fairways and green canopies/surrounds. They were genuinely like axeminster carpet. Soft and fluffy and in pristine condition that made them easy on the eye and even easier to play from. Aside from top venues such as Hillside, The Brabazon and Gleneagles I havent played off such well-produced fairway grass.

The course is tough, but fair as long as you miss in the right places. Anything wayward and the rough and overgrowth is penal, as you would expect. The second cut of the well-defined rough was deep and unforgiving and heavily reduced a players chance of attacking the pins. The course was in full bloom for our visit on a sunny and warm Friday in August and will no doubt go down this season as one of the best courses we have visited as a society and Im sure a red hot favourite for a re-visit in 2017.

Afterwards we enjoyed a pint and soup and sandwiches on the terrace and marvelled between ourselves about the course. The staff were extremely warm and welcoming and very polity and professional and the prices in the bar were good. In fact, a lot of courses could learn from Ormskirk Golf Club. They are clearly a superb club that has a fabulous reputation and rich history and yet, despite this, they dont over charge for visiting groups. We paid less than 40 to visit with a snack and I think that this is exceptional value for money from such a well-established and revered local course. It makes me, as a society organiser, want to invest our members money into the course and build up a relationship with them so we can continue to visit year on year. Everyone wins and I dont understand this desire for clubs to over price themselves from most groups, especially at these quieter times of the week. As a society, we pay a premium to visit the better courses in our area and as a group we have made a decision to do this, but some courses have not delivered the quality all round package to justify the price Ormskirk certainly doesnt have this problem and every credit to them.

If your local, or visiting Englands Golf Coast in Southport, then put this place on your list to visit. You will not be disappointed and you will also not feel your pockets being emptied at the same time either! Superb club and course.

Another visit to the glorious Ormskirk GC, a firm favourite on our calendar. The course is always in great condition and today was no exception, the fairways were clean, well divided from the semi rough with nice patterns throughout the course. The greens were exceptional with the ball rolling true on impact. This is in my top 3 of courses that Bunkers visit.

Visited with Bunkers Golf Society September 2018.

This is one of the first courses on our calendar every year. The condition of this course is always perfect from practise facilities, to tee boxes to Greens.
A great variation of holes and another good thinking parkland course. Stay in play and you will hit a good score.... as long as you can putt !!
Cant rate this course enough and would encourage you to make every effort to play here at least once.

My first year as a member of Bunkers and so far we have played some cracking courses... Ormskirk being the latest! I have to say everything about the place is superb, members very welcoming, staff very accommadating and the facilities were excellent. The course was in fantastic condition considering the downpour we had the night before. Greens were terrefic... consistent, true roll on all 18. The commitee once again have pulled one out of the bag... looking forward to next years visit already.

I played with Bunkers Golf Society on 7th Sept.

The highest compliment I can pay Ormskirk GC is that I would quite happily become a member here for life. It really is that good and the warm welcome and friendliness around the club is endearing.

Its always in supreme condition and presented beautifully and the greens and fairways are some of the finest you will play on.

Its worth paying those extra couple of pounds to step up to this level in quality of club. You really do get what you pay for.

We returned with the society on Friday 7th September 2018 following a night of heavy rain. Despite this, the course held up superbly and aside from the odd water laden bunker, you wouldn't know there had been such a deluge. This has been our finding of Ormskirk Golf Club in all the years that we have been visiting as a society - it just gets things right!

Once again we were met and greeted by a member of the club - which is always a lovely touch - and literally every member we passed said 'hello' or took the time to ask about our society. Its just a very warm and receptive club, despite the grandeur it carries in the local area.

The practice facilities are superb and are better presented than some of the clubs lots of golfers will visit with an immaculately presented practice ground that looks like 'Axminster Carpet', a bunker and chipping area that reflects the quality of the greens and a practice green that is a mirror of the speed and slickness of the greens on the 18 holes you will face. Its often surprising how often some clubs pay little attention to the practice/warm up areas, but they should be a mirror of what players will find on the course in terms of quality and condition.

The course itself is a beautiful parkland set up with that odd hole feeling a bit heathland-like. Mature trees line most of the fairways and are ready to gobble up any stray golf balls - meaning that accuracy off the tee is more paramount here than lost of other courses. However, despite this, its isn't cruel and overly penal. The rough is fair and only the most errant of shots will be [rightly] punished, requiring players to 'take their medicine' and chip sideways.

The course condition was immaculate and has taken a further step up in quality this year. We were told of the addition of a new greenskeeper from Royal Birkdale who has brought about some changes and this is apparent in the quality and presentation of the course throughout - thats not to say it was 'worse' previously.

The tee boxes are better than some greens out there and are flat and well presented and the fairways are like playing off mats, in that they are consistent, spongey and well cared for.

However, the stand out of the course are the greens. These were smooth and slick and despite not being 'super quick' were some of the finest we have played on this year and were consistently paced throughout. They have subtle breaks that catch you out and good green reading and pace/distance control is key.

We enjoyed soup and sandwiches afterwards and these were plentiful and tasty and all of the staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming - a trait we find on every visit to the club. At £48 on a Friday morning, we think it offers good value for a course of this quality.

It goes without saying that we will be hoping to return in 2019 and keep our annual link to the club going as it is one of our favourites - as voted by our members annually at AGM.

Played here before and considering this course has had same weather that other courses are using as a reason for some issues seen, this course proves they are excuses. From tee boxes, down the fairways and onto the greens, no areas of gur or bald patches (that I saw) . Tightly mown tee's, fairways and best greens I've played on this year. Despite having a terrible day myself, that is no way fault of course. Wouldn't hesitate to come back.

We played here as a part of bunkers golf society on Friday 7th September. This being my first time playing Ormskirk and hearing nothing but good things I was thoroughly looking forward to playing this course. It's safe to say I was not dissapointed.

The tee boxes for a start were better than some of the greens I have played on this year, well looked after no humps or bumps and extremely well presented.

The fairways ran well and the first cut was there but wasnt penal but some area of the rough would put you in a sticky situation. Very well tree lined fairways meant that accuracy off the tee is paramount and avoiding the fairway bunkers was also a nice challenge to come across. Well protected greens also posed a strong challenge especially on the par 3s.

The greens were nothing short of outstanding they ran like glass and the breaks made reading these greens a true challenge and I enjoyed every second on the greens extremely reactive also balls stopped on greens and took the breaks even when chipping on absolute delight.

Clubhouse and members are extremely friendly and the practise facilities are second to non.

I'd love to become a member here never mind play here again.

    110% recommend to anyone.

I have just played this great parkland course. Despite the heavy overnight and early morning rain, this course was in excellent condition. Well defined fairways, bunkers raked and excellent greens. We had soup and sandwiches after our round, which were very good and the service was excellent. Hopefully it will be on our fixture list next year. Thank you Ormskirk GC for a great day out.

One of the nicest courses I’ve played. Certainly the nicest greens I’ve ever putted on. A testing front 9 some very long holes and not much room for error either side of the fairway so accuracy is key. A lot more scoring opportunities on the back 9 with some shorter holes and a few birdie chances. A fantastic course and a real hidden gem

Having played this course a few weeks prior to the society day I was really looking forward to coming back. The greens where the best we have played on this year. With some tight fairways an well guarded greens you may have to think your way around here taking irons on a few tees is a must. Sure this will be in the calendar already for next year top course.

With a long front 9 and a short back 9 there’s a great range of challenges over the 18 hole course at Ormskirk. Wether you’re a long or short hitter, each hole will challenge you in some way to test your game. Tee boxes and greens are fantastic and the fairways are like carpets. Clubhouse is on the small side but it has everything you’d want, hospitality was good and the food is really nice. One of the best courses I’ve played.

Fantastic enjoyable course, this course is one of the best we have played as a society and right on are door step, will be back here for sure every year, maybe next time playing a major. The course is tricky but but has a little bit of everything, I have played here twice and played well twice so maybe I am being a bit biased, but I could play it every week. And to top it off they sell Wainwrights in the bar so that was the cherry on the cake, I did leave a loads of points out there but who doesn't.

Played 24th August. This is one of the best courses that i have ever played at, Greens and course in fantastic condition. A very warm welcome from the staff and very helpful. make sure you hit perfect tee shot as the rough is really tough and i advise of hitting a prov even if you see it land( personal experience). But a great course one that all societies will enjoy and will be on the fixture list for next season, as all the 16 members who came really enjoyed the challenge.

Played here with bunkers golf society on 25/6/17.

This was the second time i had played here and was very much looking forward to it. The course is truely stunning every hole is in immaculate condition from the tee boxes to the well manicured fairways to the perfect greens its hard to say a bad work about it! This i a very tough and challanging course where accuracy off the tee is a must, but not only that you do need to hit it a good distance off the tee as most of the par 4s are between 400-470 i think.
To score well around this golf course you also must manage the tricky par 3s were in my case if you miss on the wrong side you have to really heavily on your short game.
The green staff do a great job in presenting this golf course and if you get the chance i highly recommend a visit.

Played here with the Bunkers golf society on 25/06/2017. Having played the course once before my expectations where high as it was immaculate last time. This time it didn't disappoint again the course is in great condition tees, fairways and greens can't be faulted. The rough is extremely punishing any wayward shots might not be found even slightly off the fairway which is tough but if you keep it in the fairway you don't have to worry. The staff as always where very helpful and friendly and made us all feel very welcome. Great course can't wait to play again someday.
