Fantastic Fun

Staying in the area for a few nights I had lunch at the clubhouse where due to the ever changing weather the course was closed but we returned the next day and were delighted with the choice. It's not the longest or the most conventional course you will play nor is it in the best condition but I don't think I've had this much fun on a course for a long time. Carved into a Perthshire hillside it's a physical effort so get a buggy and enjoy the way the course climbs up and stretches back into the trees before returning to a downhill 18th with a burn running just in front of the green. There are a great selection of driveable par 4s, framed and elevated par 3s with enough space to let you open your shoulders but enough trouble to keep you honest. Great value all round topped off with a very hospitable staff on and off course. If you're in the area then you have to play it.

I played Pitlochry as part of a tour in early May, and had a terrific experience. Although not particularly long, the first three holes are all uphill, and a real test of endurance. The climb is worthwhile, with magnificent views of the Dee valley and highlands to reward you. The rest of the course then seems to meander gently downhill, a mixture of long and driveable par 4s, tight par 3s, and tricky greens. We finished in a lovely airy club house, and a warm welcome.
