After playing here for the first time I must say was away from the course impressed. For the time of year the course was in good condition. The tee boxes and greens were well maintained considering the weather we've had and the fairways were wet under the foot but overall in good condition. After the 18the I enjoyed a drink and warm sandwich which was fresh and serred promptly. I would definitely play here again even if it were to be this early in the season!

Can see this is a good course, long and challenging. Not had much dry weather so greens were really soft under foot and the odd fairways are boggy in places, but course in good condition, not ripped up for this time of year.

Course was in great condition considering it was closed 2 days before our Society game because of rain. Therefore it must be testimony to the course that the drainage is good because there was hardly any standing water whatsoever. The greens and tee boxes where in good condition, cannot complain. Some really good tough holes like the 2nd, 10th, 11th, 15th and 17th. Well worth a visit. Only down side was Lee B playing so well!!

Well this was a pleasant surprise. I often find hotel courses dull and soul less, and having played the other course at this venue i did not expect much here. I was wrong. A lovely course, in great condition for the time of year. The greens were a joy, subtle breaks everywhere and tough pin positions along with a strong breeze made it a real tough challenge, as was reflected by the winning score of 28 pts. fantastic views all around the course, and a fair old walk, the back 9 seemed all up hill until the fantastic par 3 15th which brought us back down with a bang! I look forward to playing here again.

A very hilly course that's pretty brutal when playing long when the wind is up and course has had a lot of rain. It has remained in mostly good condition considering the recent weather and the greens I felt ran mostly true. Fairways and tee boxed was in good condition.
An interesting challenge all the way around with great scenery at various points on the course. Although a big course it is a course that needs to be plotted carefully.
Great hospitality in the clubhouse and the lads where friendly and helpful in the pro shop. A thoroughly enjoyable day all around, but now I am absolutely shattered :-)

Just reading the reviews from last year when we played and apparently it was very wet and miserable this year however the weather was very good lots of sun although the wind made it very difficult as the scores from our lower handicap players shows we were all pretty much playing the same level. The course is as last year fantastic the views are unbelievable and considering the amount of rain over the last couple of days the course held up well with each hole having its own character and difficulty this isn't a course you can just tee up and belt the ball it's a course to make you think especially when the wind picks up it can effect your shot dramatically because it picks up and drops very fast all in all one of cheshires gems

Our second league game of the season. On arrival the pro shop and club house staff were very welcoming and friendly. Our first tee time was 1.11pm. There were no hold ups and all 16 players tee'd off on time. The tee boxes were all open with the Fairway's a little wet in places. The green's were good and fast, although could be a little tricky. It was easy to navigate from one green to another. We all enjoyed the tricky challenge and would certainly play the course again along with recommending it to others.

I played here in April and my review is below. Course was still excellent, and greens were very quick as anticipated. That was despite a very poor day weather wise.

There was a marshall driving around which seemed to irk some players. I've no problem with this but on such a wet day with players having brollies up and down, drying clubs, wayward shots due to slippery grips, it was understandable why play could be slow. But in fact we were around in 4:15 for a 4-ball which in the conditions wasn't bad.

Played the premiere course 26.7.15. Found the premiere a hilly course with fine views ,very happy I was in a buggy due to the hills and persistent rain . The course is in fine condition and is a good test of golf , the greens was unreadable on many occasions and they held up excellent with being so much rain throughout the day !
I recommend the course for its scenery ,condition, challenge and off course the hospitality .
I would like to play this course again in the near future without the torrential rain but instead a lovely sunny day to see the course at its best .

The course is fantastic well looked after lightning fast greens which considering the weather (rain all day) and some very distinctive holes the 15th seemed most popular you have to see it to believe it this course is a must for any rank of golfer just to say you have played on it is enough even the weather didn't put us off and i had the worst game of my life and still came off smiling. The staff in the club house were very friendly greeted with tea coffee and bacon barms on arrival. Not like the carisma twins in the pro shop but dont let that put you off

We played on a day of relentless torrential rain unfortunately but it didn't dampen our spirits. Everyone in the group wants to go back and hopefully next time we will see this course in all its glory. Tee boxes pretty good, fairways well cut and in excellent condition and lightening fast greens considering the rain. I would love to see them in dry weather!! The course seemed to drain very well considering. Some great holes especially the 15th. I thought the two young men in the pro shop where unfriendly. A smile and a little conversation would have been nice. As I was paying for my buggy and a few bits including a hat the lad on the till told me he needed to save what little change he had. Saving it for who exactly? A customer? I am pretty sure at that moment I was a customer!! Hahaha He told me he wanted me to pay by card which was pretty inconvenient since I had drawn cash out to pay on the way there. The other lad that frequently reappeared throughout the round on his buggy was a nuisance and again unfriendly. The clubhouse looked fantastic from out on the course but is a little dated inside in places. I thought staff behind the bar where very warm and friendly. 5 points for the bar staff and 0 for the pro shop duo! I am looking forward to playing the course again though, fingers crossed it's dry next time.

I'd played the Portal Championship course last year. But Portal Premier surpassed it.

It's quite hilly in parts especially the back 9. However the course layout is fantastic. The par 3s are all good holes but of them all, the 15th is breathtaking - I won't even spoil it, just go and play it. The par 5s are good holes, long and tough if you stray off line. And the par 4s from 9-11 are real tests.

Even though it is early season (April), the greens were very quick and quite even. Not sure what they'll be like in July when I visit with my society but I think they'll be scary.

All in all a fantastic test and well worth a visit.
