This is a "must play" course. It is links golf at its best from tight fairways to undulating greens and pot bunkers whilst a great feature are the paths laid with sea shells. The clubhouse is very welcoming and offers great views over the Solway Firth.

Nice start to a 3 day tour. A untypical scottish summers day. No wind and quite warm.
Course in good nick and very scenic. Wasnt too hard with no wind to interfere.
Strange 250 yard+ par 3 early on. Not sure its needed apart from if PRO's are playing.

A tough introduction to golf in Scotland

Average rating

8.8

The introduction refers to the fact that it's not too far from the border. When we found it, we discovered that the Scottish ladies Senior match play Championship was going on. Not even the captain would be allowed on the course at some places on such an occasion, but after a short wait off we went.
It is part links with the firth just over the boundary fence. The rest is open parkland with few trees. The fairways are fairly open on most holes, and they need to be because the gorse and heather are very thick. Your reviewer can testify to this because one pushed drive cost him the only ball he lost on the trip. It is important to get the line off the tee right because this will give an easier approach on some holes.
Once in the fairway, there are burns to clear on some holes and when the greens are reached, like most coastal courses it's hard to get close to the hole. This is accentuated by the severity of the slopes around some greens and by the speed and subtlety of the putting surfaces, which are true and quick. The slopes can make it hard to judge the speed when chipping and putting. If you come off with a good score you've earned it. It's very playable and enjoyable but a challenge if you want to score well.
The was a friendly welcome in the clubhouse and the food was good and inexpensive.
