Winter Golf as it should be

A course you have to visit, and one that never fails to disappoint.

Despite the recent wet weather the course was fully open, some winter tees were in use but more importantly the full set of summer greens were in play, and running fast and true.

Having played a number of very wet and muddy courses recently it was a pleasure to play a round without the need to put the waterproof trousers on. No water or mud on the course at all which for a parkland course is very rare at this time of year.

Hospitality in the pro shop and clubhouse is warm and friendly, the food in the clubhouse is of an excellent quality and very reasonably priced.

The course itself has a good variety of holes, and unusually starts with back to back par 5s, the first gently downhill, the second gently uphill.

The par 3s are no gimmes either as all are 140 plus yards. There are a number of water hazards that come into play during the round and you'll be lucky to avoid the bunkering on the course which is excellent but fair. Views from all parts of the course are also outstanding if your playing partners take a little too much time.

The 18th is a fitting finale to the round, a long uphill par 5 finishing in front of the clubhouse.

Great club, great course, play it if you can.
