Testing links - beware!

This is possibly the toughest course I am yet to encounter. I played this course in the height of summer, which brought with it driving rain for 3 holes and a gale force winds for all. Factors which did add to the already testing links.

To say I enjoyed the round in such conditions would be a lie. However given a lesser wind, the course is set up perfectly and every tee shot must be thought out and planned for. An error from the tee is hard to recover from with numerous fairway bunkers and punishing thick rough waiting to trap and hide your ball.

The first 9 offers you the opportunity in some holes to capitalise on the wind. Points are much harder to come by on the following 9.

The back nine has some great holes, including blind tee shots and a raised tee box on the 16th. All of which are protected throughout by undulating fairways and thick rough.

The greens were consistent and were difficult to hold when attacking the pin. Again adding to what is a great rest of golf.

I would recommend this course. You will lose balls, your cap in the wind and even your sanity, but it is a good course worth at least one visit.

The clubhouse is traditional and the food was well priced and served by friendly staff.

Fantastic course, must better than i was expecting. Front nine is easier then the back nine really bites hard. Tough back nine but the best back nine iv ever played. Staff very friendly and helpful and members were very welcoming.

Stayed here in the Dormy accommodation, having played the course.

Course is a great links course and was in good condition. Greens were reasonably fast and very true.

Practice facilities are good, and welcome in the club house was great.

Fair hike to get there but well worth it for the golf and the location. It is the 3rd time I have traveled from Yorkshire to play there.

Great links course with some challenging holes. Not for the faint hearted or those who aren't straight.

Great vista and gorse lined holes. Take plenty of balls.

Visited here in May 2016 and found the course still suffering a little from the long wet winter. We were surprised to find some bunkers full of water, and several other soft patches of ground in front of greens.

The layout is rather a tale of two halves, with a pretty bland front 9 followed by a more challenging back 9, featuring many long par 4s and an extremely long blind par 3.

As links courses go, this is pretty good without being in the top tier. Worth a visit.

The day started well with fantastic weather and a good hearty breakfast in the clubhouse, the course was ok, decent layout but I found it bland and not spectacular, the rough was very penal 5 yards into it and struggled to find ball, managed to knock it around in 3 over despite a list ball and 2 three putts, a course you need to play but I would struggle to justify the journey to play it again

Played this course in September 2015 as part of a tour of North wales.I was really looking forward to playing this course and it didn't disappoint. The course was generally long and a stiff wind increased difficulty considerably. The rough was harsh and so i would recommend that any average player brings plenty of balls to keep the round going !
Lots of very scenic holes and the par 3s were particularly interesting with the par 5s just the right length to have a go at a risk/reward shot. On the downside the weaker golfers in the group really struggled with the course difficulty. I really liked thye greens which had lots of bias and borrow that had a few of us foxed on occasions. In the clubhouse the speciality chicken wrap is a must for lunch. Overall the best course we played on the trip.

Stunning golf course beneath Harlech castle - true links classic with one of the best Par 4's - 15th in the world.
Held many major Pro & Amateur events and the back nine of Par 33 is as tough as it gets, especially if windy.
Stay in the Dormy house to get the full Harlech experience.

I was very disappointed with this course, I was really expecting more but we all left feeling somewhat let down as there are no real dunes or sea views on the front side and the back nine just seemed a slog back into the wind. The clubhouse is nice and the Secretary was most welcoming but when you are playing a ‘top 100’ course with a high priced green fee it just didn’t quite meet our expectations. Harlech castle will keep an eye over you during your round.

I played this course and Nefyn and as I mentioned in the other review I play off a handicap of 19. Nefyn was tough but this was another level, I found it really difficult, I lost numerous golf balls as the rough is heavy and narrow fairways for my tee shots! The course was immaculate and the greens were superb, I just think it is probably for the better player.
