Played sherdley park golf course on Sunday 4th June. With a tee time of 13.45 we arrived to find the 1st tee with two groups already waiting then a three ball behind us . After waiting we tee'd off ten minutes late but after the 1st hole didn't need to wait on any tee boxes witch was a positive. The course has a good layout for a short track and has matured nicely over the years. The Greens are in as good condition as I've ever seen them rolling true and a pleasure to putt on but that's the positives finished I'm afraid. Tee boxes are in a terrible condition and look like they hadn't been cut for days the bunkers where rock hard and hadn't been raked in weeks as they have weeds growing in them. After seeing the bunkers on the 1st hole I told my playing partners if they went into a bunker to pick up rake where your ball landed and replace. The rough had dead cut grass lay on top so made finding a ball difficult even one yard off the fairway. One thing that was poor was on the 4th hole I hit the green but my ball rolled onto the fringe between the bunker and green not normally a problem as you'd be able to putt but the fringe between the bunker and green had inch high grass so it was like playing out the rough one inch off the green ! .What could be a and has been in the past a great little course is massively let down by the maintenance it's receiving through what I'm guessing is lack of investment. Hopefully they will find investment and get the course back to a good standard as it could be a great track. We payed £10 to play 18 holes on a Sunday afternoon thats why I've scored the value as I have .

Played here for the first time today. Didn't know what to expect as had mixed reviews..I really enjoyed the course. It's a place that if playing well you could score well and really slash your handicap. The greens were a bit slow but let's be honest they are the same for everybody and players of a higher standard should be able to adjust to that. The back 9 is much nicer of the two but overall I was very happy with the value for money. Look forward to playing again

Sherdley Park Golf Club is a municipal golf course, so don't expect PGA standards on green or fairway. At the price charged it is a good course, which plays long and has some nice features, particularly at the turn.

A good standard of course with wide fairways allows for mistakes - hooks and slices from the tee. So a good course to get into the game.

Mid to lower handicappers will want more of a challenge and consistency on the greens.

First things first.....Shirdley Park is a municiple course and therefore expectations need to be realistic, especially given the current financial climate and how councils are under pressure to make money go further.

That said, Shirdley Park is an enjoyable days golf - particularly if you are new to the game. The layout of the course is interesting in parts, with some great holes. The greens are playable, but can be a bit uneven with a bobble or two, but are generally looked after to an acceptable level.

The cost per round is very attractive, and is one of the main reasons that people revisit Shirdley Park.

My criticism though [and this applies to almost all municpal courses] is that standards are often leave a lot to be desired. People occassionally being allowed to play the course in jeans, or trainers. I appreciate that golf at this level has to cater for the masses, but sure there have to be some basic standards to ensure that the course maintains an element of professionalism.

That aside, I have great memories of this place as it was were I developed my game and I enjoyed many a sunny day strolling around the course without the usual pressures of a members club.
