Welcome to Southport Old Links Golf Club - Southport's Hidden Gem.

Old Links Golf, despite not being the biggest or best-known golf course in Southport, is still one of the oldest, with the quality to match its famous neighbours. Golf was first played here in 1892 & the Course is often referred to as the 'Hidden Gem' along England's Golf Coast.

We are a fairly small yet extremely friendly Club who are very proud of our great greens. Old Links is a challenging Course which offers Flexible Golfing for when you simply fancy a quick 'knock' as well as plenty of serious Competitive Golf throughout our Golfing Calendar.

Membership here also offers a Vibrant Social Scene alongside our Friendly Staff and Members. We believe we provide the best value membership in the area, playing on some of the best greens in the North West of England at the friendly 'peoples club'.

Southport Old Links is often affectionately known as 'The Peoples Club' and within a few minutes of our arrival it is soon apparent as to how the title was acquired. We were welcomed by Assistant Secretary, Andy Kenyon and a couple of members of council whose dedication to the club was clearly visible. The effort that these people put into golf clubs never fails to amaze me as many give up their time on a voluntary basis, they really are the lifeblood of UK golf clubs, you should be applauded.

Anyway back to the review! The 1st and 10th tees sit in a slightly elevated position in front of the clubhouse and the course opens with a slight dog leg left Par 5, I took driver and was slightly right of fairway and slightly blocked for my second, I soon realised this course is about brain not brawn.(not that I have much of either) On the 2nd tee things look pretty tight, narrow fairway, mature tree line, a brook running across the fairway...just a few considerations from the tee! If you are in a good position with your tee shot your are left with a short iron to a well guarded green, this is a similar scenario that follows through all holes. The condition of all the greens and bunkers was excellent. All greens had subtle undulations and had consistent pace and rolled true. The Par 4 sixth hole and Par 3 seventh were two beauties. The 6th is again narrow off the tee and second shot plays to a narrow tiered green. The 7th is a beautiful Par 3, you play to a kidney shaped green with great bunkers and on the day we played the pin was in a devilish position.

It is always difficult to vary a 9 hole course for the 2nd loop, but Southport Old Links manage to achieve this with some significantly different tee positions on the back nine. In particular the 4th/13th tees are 100 yards apart and when playing as the 4th a straight down Par 5, and as the 13th a dog leg Par 4, which gives good variety. This is a similar situation on 9/18 where 9 plays as a really tough Par 4 and then 18 plays as a Par 5 with a great tee position.

The course stands in a golfing Mecca with some of the most well known courses in the UK as neighbours, but consider this for a moment, great condition, great greens, good variety, riveted bunkers and a friendly clubhouse all for £26 a round on weekdays! or you could play at one of the neighbours for £205??

These golf courses are the lifeline of UK golf and need to be supported, so next time your are in Southport make sure you check out the Old Links.

Although only 9 holes, they are 9 holes of superb quality made into 18 magnificent holes by two sets of tees which give each hole a different feel. Well worth a visit.

A great day at this very hospitable club. The course is in great condition and is challenging but fair in the way it plays . Our four ball really enjoyed their game. As a visiting Captain being given the honour of the course was much appreciated.

This may be a little biased as it's a member's perspective, but being situated along 'England's Golf Coast', Southport Old Links Golf Club often gets overlooked by the 'big hitters' in the area.

Being a 9 Hole course with 18 varying Tee's, our small club has come on leaps and bounds since the new Clubhouse was built in 1997. The Course is as tricky as any along this great golfing area and the quality of the Greens in particular has been commented on by members, guests and visitors year in year out.

The standard of the Course and the Greens has led to Lancashire Team matches, Lancashire Girls fixtures and Lancashire Seniors holding prestigious events here and the feedback from all, has always been positive.

I love the course, not only for its great Greens but also for its flexibility. The layout allows for 4 holes, 7 holes or 9 holes to be played with relative ease providing it's quiet and you're not cutting across other groups. In this case it is ideal for people who want to golf but for whom time is always a constraint.

Still the 18 Hole layout allows for Championship Golf to be competed for here and the varying teeing areas provide a true 18 Hole golfing experience.

The facilities are mainly let down due to lack of space to significantly expand and the lack of full practice ground but everything else you require is readily available. Plans are in place to refurbish the clubhouse very soon and long term plans for major improvements are always being formulated.

The Bar and Catering operations are very vibrant, especially with the Club's social scene. Southport Old Links Golf Club is often affectionately known as 'The People's Club' due to its friendly atmosphere and social members. The Catering has a 5 Star rating and receives regular high praise. The Bar Manager won England Golf's Steward of the Year award in 2010 and anyone has met him certainly doesn't forget him. Both areas provide superb value for money, especially for members with a generous discount scheme.

Finally as one of the cheapest memberships in the local area on top of all the additional benefits, Southport Old Links offers in my opinion the best value golfing membership around. For visitors as well, with 18 holes from just 26 midweek and availability to play on Saturdays, it is fantastic value for the quality of course you get to play. I recommend you come and give us a try and then why not let us know your thoughts through here on Teeuplo?
