Here at St Anns Old Links we are justly proud of our 6941 yard Par 72 Championship links course and welcome the opportunity to share it with golfers from around the world.

Founded in 1901, St Annes Old Links is another of the fine championship links of Englands north west coast and we recently hosted the Local Final Qualifying for The Open in July 2012 held at nearby Royal Lytham & St Annes and the Ladies Golf Union Girls Home International Matches in August 2013. Other forthcoming major events include the English Women's Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship in August 2015.

    23rd April 2014

Footage filmed in Jan 2016 as part of our Winter Series

Review below relates to a round during the main season.

I always find it difficult to explain the beauty of links golf, they are not framed by mature tree lines, surrounded by glistening water features or picturesque flower beds and lush greenery, they are however simply stunning.

A links course of true quality has undulating fairways, riveted bunkers, defined fairways and greens like silk not to mention a course design that makes you think about each and every shot you play, St Annes Old Links ticks all the boxes and is a classic links as good as any in the UK. We arrived in the car park to be met by a wonderful clubhouse that sits proudly overlooking this great course, we were greeted with a warm welcome in the pro shop, a pro shop which boasts a great selection of wears and the largest golf shoe selection I have ever seen! Prior to our start we met Head green keeper - Stuart Hogg. It was nice to meet someone who clearly has a real passion for their work, Stuart has been at the course 10 years and it is evident that he and his team are doing a wonderful job. The course is quite literally one great hole after another, I could not fault anything about this course. The layout is superb, the placement of bunkers and the sheer quantity of them make it imperative that the tee shot and approach shots are carefully selected and executed, know your yardages because if you land in the fairway bunkers you have no choice but to loft up and make sure you clear the lip! The quality of the bunkers was pristine in appearance and consistent in play. The greens rolled like carpets and would imagine in high summer Stuart and his team can make them as fast as they like.

The course plays as long as 6941 yards off the back and it is no surprise this course holds open qualifying when the Open is at Royal Lytham. We played from the yellows however, with Stuarts permission we did try the blue tee on the 17th which is a par 5 at 622 yards!! On the day it was also into a headwind, driver and 2 x four irons and I still hadn't reached the green! I can image this could ruin a few cards with only two to play. I would normally list holes of particular note but on this course I would be running through 1 to 18, all are quality, if I had to pick a favourite I enjoyed the par 3 9th which plays 174yds into a long but narrow green that is in a 'basin' surrounded by those wonderful bunkers, it also frames the clubhouse behind it and I loved the view standing on the tee. (I also hit a good shot, which may have something to do with it being my favourite!)

Whilst I mention the view I could not help but smile each time I looked to the horizon to see Blackpool Tower and the Rollercoaster, they brought back childhood memories and seemed to add to the experience on the course. At the end of our round we were introduced to a former Club Professional at St Annes, Gwilym Hardyman who plays the course as often as possible and clearly has a love for this course and I cant blame him! What a lovely man. For me this should be on any true golfers wish list, the Fylde Coast boasts some amazing golf courses which are well worth a visit offering great value. My advice would be get yourself to Lytham and play this beauty you wont be disappointed and to all at St Annes - keep up the good work you are   doing a wonderful job. I cant wait to go back!

Have played this many times and the course just gets better and better.

The pro shop staff are excellent and very welcoming and the clubhouse facilities are good.

The course was in fantastic condition, with perfectly manicured fairways, rough which was penal but fair and the best greens you will probably ever play on. Small touches like the mown walk ways from tee to fairway make this course a must visit.

A great links layout always in great condition and genuinely offers year round golf. In winter it is better than some courses in summer. The course can be quite forgiving and there are enough short holes to ensure you can score well if your game is up to it. The 9th is the standout hole a par 3 with a long narrow green which cannot be seen from the tee and provides great drama as you walk up towards the green wondering if you need a putter, sand wedge or help looking for your ball!

This course is truly immaculate. The fairways are better than some greens ive putted on recently. The layout is interesting and you can feel the history in the place. Everyone is welcoming and the facilities are great.

Love playing at this course, prefer parkland in general but you just can't doubt the quality and standard of SAOL. Greens and fairways are about the best I have ever played.

This place is an all year course, always dry underfoot and they have the greens in excellent shape. Offers a great test of golf, wonderful bunkers, had it easy today as not a great deal of wind.

Clubhouse is grand but looking a little tired, although very welcoming and a great snooker room!

Great value during the winter months and guaranteed a dry round.

This course us a must to play . Every hole from one to eighteen is a challenge. The fairways, bunkers and greens are top class. A credit to the green-keeper and his staff. I will definitely be back to play this great course again. Well done to all.
