Our second visit with Bunkers Golf Society 26.4.19.

I play off 16.

Great welcome by the pro in the shop, very friendly and informative about the course. Shop stocked with all you will need for the days golf.

Upon entering the club we were met with a welcome from staff and via the TV screens with our logo on. A very nice touch.

I had some food before going out, well priced and great quality. Not part of our deal this time but would recommend having a bite to eat there.

The course is as good a parkland course that you will find in the North West, Fairways immacculate, Greens slick and true and the rest of the course well maintained and pleasing on the eye.

plenty of areas to warm up with a chipping area at the rear of the club house with a few nets and a large puuting area. [ only the brave ones used this due to the weather].

All in all a very enjoyable day despite the weather. A club that i would highly recommend you visit.

As Captain of BGS this year I had the pleasure of dealing with the general manager, Ryan. Thank you very much for your generosity and we look forward to returning as a society next season.... I will be returning much sooner.

One of our society favourites, Stockport never fails to deliver. The course layout is superb and the greens running nice and true. A fantastic course and one of my Personnal favourites from our Callander. A must visit. Always a very warm welcome from the staff and they even put some food on for us even thought the kitchen was closed. Top marks for hospitality.

On arrival at Stockport we were given a very warm welcome to the clubhouse and facilities were very good tea and coffee were a reasonable price. Practice areas were very good and plenty of space for all of us to warm up although a but of a walk to the first tee still very good.

The course was in excellent condition despite previous days downpour of rain and still being very wet and windy when teeing off.

Greens were clearly recovering from winter but still rolling very true. Bunkers were in very good condition and plenty of them well placed around the course (I seen my fair share).

All in all a fantastic course a very good test for all skill of golfers.

First time playing Stockport after hearing great things from members that played it last year. Was not disappointed, in short, great course layout and great course in general.

Played mid April when weather in the preceding week and on the day was wet and windy. Despite being still early in season when course was still going through winter work to get ready for summer, it was still a joy to play.

A couple of the greens still had some off-putting winter work that affected putting but not anything you wouldn't see on a lot of courses this time of year.

Can tell why this course is used as an open qualifer though, it feels and plays very nice. Would love to play in the summer if price was right.

Definitely worth a visit and would like to see it retained on bunkers calendar.

I visited with Bunkers Golf Society on 26/04.

What a fabulous club Stockport is. Brilliantly warm welcome and very hospitable. It offers superb value [at least for this time of year and midweek] that a lot of other clubs could learn from that doesn't out price them from golfers.

The course is a dream on the eye with tree lined fairways and is well kept throughout. The greens and bunkers were good but slightly behind where they will be in the summer [obviously] but the 18 holes are all a pleasure to play .

I would recommend this to any golfer and it will certainly be somewhere I visit again in future.

OFFICIAL REVIEW FROM BUNKERS GOLF SOCIETY - www.bunkersgolfsociety.com

Stockport Golf Club had been voted as one of our members favourite clubs in 2017 and sadly we were unable to make the dates work the following year and so we were looking forward to heading back on 26th April 2019 – and it never disappointed.

Stockport is a beautiful, well establish parkland course that meanders through mature trees and gentle rolling slopes of the Cheshire countryside. There really are some beautiful holes throughout the 18 and most holes are framed by lush green trees that make this very easy on the eye.

Our visit came off the back of the hottest weather on record for mid-April and all courses in the North West were therefore a couple of weeks behind where they would want to be. Stockport was similar in some regards, but the course was still in exceptional condition with lush carpet-like fairways that were well defined from the rough and well cared for bunkers that although wet due to the deluge of rain just as we arrived at the club, were still more than playable.

The greens played well despite some recent work and were mostly smooth and quick. The tee boxes and general condition of the course and practice facilities were superb and a credit to the hard-working greens staff who were busy on the course during our visit – which is always great to see.

The warmth of welcome at Stockport is always first class, and this visit was no different. Simple touches like a welcome message on the TV screens within the club for the society are pleasant and set a nice tone. The staff were all helpful, friendly and attentive and took care of us brilliantly. We enjoyed a snack pre round and it was good value and extremely tasty.

All in all, Stockport Golf Club is a premier club in the area and one that is certainly worth a visit. It simply won’t disappoint.

We visited Stockport in April 2019 on what was a bit of a wet day after a period of good weather. I have t say that I absolutely love this course and it well deserves to be considered one of Cheshire’s best.

The clubhouse is nice, the members and staff were all friendly and appeared to welcome us as guests and our ore round food was good value and tasty.

The facilities on offer to members are superb. There are several large practice areas dotted around for putting, chipping, pitching, nets and longer irons all of which are well maintained. The course itself is a wonderful mix of holes, many tree lined but with wide springy fairways making pure striking an absolute joy. The greens were undergoing a bit of early season work but you can tell that in a few weeks they would be up to speed.

The course has a prestige feel to it as you negotiate the dog legs and approach the well bunkered greens. My chipping has a tendency to be appalling but here was a joy due to fluffy fringes and seldom a bare lie was seen.

There are a couple of standout holes. 14th I think a short par four with big dog leg right and picturesque green was my favourite of the bunch.

The standard here sets the bar for others and the rate we paid made it all the sweeter.

A absolutely superb parkland course in fantastic condition. It’s hard to pick a signature hole for this course as there are several that are stunning.

Friendly staff and members combined with a fabulous golf course make this a must visit club if you’re in the area.

Played this lovely course today for the first time, i am looking forward to playing it again soon. The fairways, greens and tees are in good condition coming out of winter and are probably the best i have played on so far this year. The bunkers where in great condition, with plenty of sand in them. The members where very welcoming and the staff where excellent. Thank you for having us Stockport Golf Club.

Another stunning course chosen by the committee! This is probably one of the best parkland course i have played on, beautifully manicured fairways and green perimeters and well crafted bunkers in and around the greens. Very nice variety in all holes making this a real beauty of a course. A definite repeat is required for next season!

I visited Stockport Golf Club with Bunkers Golf Society on 20th April 2017 and my handicap is 11.

Having never been to the club before, I was aware it was regarded as a real top draw local course and had been used for Open regional qualifying. However, it even surpassed what I was expecting from it.

It is genuinely one of the finest parkland courses I have had the pleasure to play - if not THE finest.....and thats in April!!!

Despite some issues going on at the entrance to the club [that I am 100% aware were totally out of the clubs control] I was delighted with the warm welcome and friendliness of the staff - who could not apologies enough [including several members] for what was happening outside.

The layout of the course is beautiful. Undulating without being a punishing walk, the course is cut wonderfully into the natural land and each hole has something different to offer. However, the main defence is the tight tree lined fairways and accuracy from the tee is paramount if you want to score well. Anything offline and you are 'chopping' out sideways and taking your medicine.

The condition of the course was magnificent. Carpet like fairways, well tendered bunkers and the grass was all immaculately cut and presented. The greens were a touch early in the season and hollow tining had obviously taken place a couple of weeks earlier but they still ran quickly and very true and for mid April I was very pleased with them.

The food was excellent and offered superb value and the bar was reasonably priced and staff were attentive and friendly.

In summary, Stockport is a club I will undoubtedly visit more regularly. Its just a shame its a bit too much of a drive from me personally, otherwise I'd be there all the time. A superb club and a wonderful course. Thank you.

Tremendous Track on a Tricky Day!

20th April, 2017, by d1ashley

I visited this fine, traditional golf club for the first time with 14 friends from Bunkers Golf Society on Thursday, 20th April.
Rather unusually we were greeted at the locked perimeter gates by two security guards and the club steward!
It was explained to us that whilst we were very welcome the club had several families from the traveller community who were less welcome who had taken up residence overnight on the club`s car park....
We were reassured that the club were dealing with the matter calmly and professionally and we`re delighted to hear that our pre-booked breakfast and round should be unaffected.
So after a hearty "traditional English" we made our way to the excellent putting green and well structured practice nets. (Unfortunately the practice nets had also attracted the attention of a number of the traveller children -who were having great fun using them as scrambling nets!)
So it was off to the first tee....
What a superb condition we found the course to be in with well shaped fairways featuring several cuts of graded rough giving them a very interesting and attractive appearance. Greens which ran quite smoothly although there was still a little growth needed to fully disguise the hollow tining and sanding which had been undertaken recently....Bunkers which had been immaculately raked and tee boxes level and beautifully clipped.
In short it was a delight to play this fine course.
Post-round discussion confirmed that all groups had found the experience to be one they looked forward enormously to repeating next year.
Several players ordered food from the varied and extensive menu (paninis, toasted sandwiches, omelettes, fish and chips). All were impressed with the quality and quantity of their meals.
This was another excellent day for Bunkers Golf Society at another superb venue.

I play off 20. Played with Bunkers Golf Society.
A very eventful start to the day but handled well by the staff.
Nice breakfast to start friendly staff (sue) then onto a large practise putting area outside the club house. Great condition. Although i didnt use them there are nets and a practise area which is kept well ! The course was immaculate. Plenty of green keepers out and they deserve a lot of credit. Fairways superb very pleasing on the eye too. First cut of rough spot on ! Greens almost there but very true and accurate. Great positioning of the bunkers which had plenty of sand in ! A quality course from first to last hole. Tee blocks flat and of a good size. Ant wait to revisit. Nice food afterwards too !!

I have played here several times in recent years and most recently visited in July 2015.

The course as always was presented in excellent condition with immaculate slopey greens running at 11 on the stimp meter.

This really is a classy layout with several tight driving holes, and also many hidden hollows and doglegs to be negotiated.

Highly recommended, and sensibly priced. This should be a must-visit course for all golfers.

We played this course on Sunday 9 November. Before golf we had a buffet style breakfast where you could eat all you could handle. A member of staff looked after us at the tables making sure we were topped up with tea coffee and toast. The course for the time of year was as good as you'll play anywhere this winter. The greens in excellent condition. All this for £35 superb value for money.
