Created in 1908 by eminent golf architect Harry Colt, the Stoke Park course has been the inspiration for many of the world’s most famous holes, including Augusta’s infamous 16th.

The course itself has seen many impressive rounds in its prestigious history, including the first PGA Matchplay tournament in 1910 and James Bond's epic golfing duel in the 1964 classic 007 movie 'Goldfinger'.

Stoke Park also offers fantastic practice facilties including putting green, driving range, short game area and our state-of-the-art swing studio. The Swing Studio is a real asset to what we offer at our 5 star facility. This indoor facility offers the best teaching and club fitting technology, allowing for a truly interactive golf lesson where swings can be viewed immediately on the plasma screens enhanced by the latest V1 software. Pupils can hit out onto the driving range or in severe conditions or low light into a net. Gone are the days of cancelling a golf lesson due to poor weather. I played Stoke Park early autumn time, and the weather was pretty poor all day (you must remember the rain we had in this period). Well I'd usually of cancelled and rearranged but this one I couldn't do, and to be honest the weather only played a small part in the day, and certainly didn't ruin anything about the day.

On the first hole I managed to experience the bunkers, and considering the poor weather the bunkers were still perfect (I can only imagine this is why pro golfers can sometimes be seen to aim for bunkers on some courses)
The greens were sublime and a great day with the flat stick would be rewarded some with fine scoring,

The layout is good. Plenty of thinking time needed for new players to decide the best route to the green, and it's a great way to introduce yourself to millionaire golf too.

The last half dozen holes were the highlight for me, a great selection of holes with some real gems to play into.

.... and yes, I managed the whole review without a mention of James Bond ...... Doh!

Had the privilege to play Stoke Park back in July, from the drive up to the stunning iconic club house (think Goldfinger) to the beautiful course layout including the hole that inspired the 12th at Augusta this was a real golfing experience. I have played some of the finest courses this year including Woburn, Wentworth West and the Princes and Stoke Park earns its place amongst them.

As I played back in July and have played many courses since I can't recall exact hole details but it is a challenge for all golfers and was presented in fabulous conditions. The fairways were in better condition than the greens at a few courses I have played in my time and the greens were stunning fast and firm but will take a well struck ball.

As with all reviews how you play and the weather can affect the outcome of the review. After all it is hard to give a positive / constructive review when it is lashing down and you spent most of the day looking at your feet to keep the rain out of your eyes. When I played the weather was stunning and I played well but I believe I would have loved it even if it had been wet and I had played badly.

The welcome was warm and you know you are somewhere special when you arrive, with nice little touches in the starters hut like free tees pencils and ball markers.

It is expensive but if you want to play and enjoy the best it is worth it and one for the bucket list for all golfers.
