Upton-by-Chester is an established, 18-hole parkland course with mature tree lined fairways and some of nature's water hazards. It's a course of great quality and USGA specification greens keep it in play all year.

Relatively flat and not overly long, the course is excellent for those who are looking to get into golf or improve their game. It has more par 3's than most. That doesn't mean to say it's an easy round – there are tricky challenges for even the most experienced golfers that might not be immediately obvious from the scorecard.

Played on Sunday 2nd April with our Society and after recent weather was surprised by how dry the course was. Upton is fairly flat and not too challenging to walk. The tee boxes were grass and in decent condition. The Fairways had been cut and were also decent. The Greens were in good nick and were fast for the time of year. They have lots of slopes and in my opinion some of the pin positions were a bit silly in that it was virtually impossible to sink the putt if you were playing from a certain angle. All in all a very enjoyable day and will definately return in the future.

A good mixture of holes, with a varying degree of difficulty, which makes the course enjoyable for high handicappers but enough of a challenge for all. For the 1st day out of the year in March the course was in good condition and will definitely visit again.

The course was in very good condition for the time of year. The greens had some recent work but putted very well. The members were very friendly and welcomed our society. Bacon batches and coffee on arrival all timely served and good quality. All in all a very enjoyable first day out for our new season. Wouldn't hesitate to return for another knock.

Played mid March with society and course in pretty good condition for time of year.
    Greens fast but fair.
Five Par 3 holes with one over 225 yards which won't suit all.
Overall though a good testing course.
Very good stock selection in Pro shop.
Good bacon rolls & and service with a smile from the well stocked bar.
    Would recommend to all societies.

Lovely golf course, good mixture of short and longer holes, with plenty of trees. Good drivers of the golf ball will fair better. Was in good condition despite recent wet period, greens were extremely fast for this time of year.

The course was a decent challenge, some internal OoB and tight fairways made for plenty of heart-in-mouth Tee Offs! A little too many par 3s for my liking and short par 4s, ranging from a 233 yard Par 3, to a 248 yard Par 4.

The course was slightly frustrating, with heavy and soft ground in places not giving the ball a true roll at times. But with some of the flooding and rainwater they have had to put up with recently, the course should be applauded for its current playable condition. The scoring of our day out was also tightly bunched so a fair game for varied handicaps

Would be happy to play the course again

Played here 21st March as our season opener, found the course was in generally good condition considering the weather it has recently endured. Trolleys only on course which was understandable and parts of the course still wet underfoot. Greens were quick, cut very short which was suprising this early in the golfing season and provided a stern test on most putts. Generally well laid out course although suffers from lack of overall space leaving some holes too long as a Par 3 but too short for a Par 4. Facilities, Pro Shop and hospitality all good, would play again.

We played this course in mid March and there had been a fair amount of rain in the previous weeks. The course was soft in places. The greens were fast but appeared to have not an awful lot of grass on them.
This is a very tight course with a more than average number of Par 3's.

First and last time playing here. Poor layout, terrible fairways and poor greens. However, the money shot was the two members behind our 3 ball attempting to intimidate us to let them through. There was an old fellas fourball ahead of us who weren't playing slowly so we just played along behind at a relaxing pace keeping up with them.
The huffing and muttering behind from two arses that were spraying the ball all over the course (I'd be amazed if either was playing under 20) was ridiculous and Jim the end I actually had to go up to them and ask them what the problem was!!
I play off 8 so I know what I'm doing on the course and whilst not having the greatest round of my life we weren't guilty of slow play.
Ride, ignorant, members poor to average course. Won't be visiting again.

Helpful from the minute you walk in the Pro shop.
Short yardage course and tight, go off the fairways and you will be punished by the trees.
Drive straight and score well. Greens have tricky little unseen borrows.
