The West Lancashire Golf Club was founded in 1873 by seven members of Royal Liverpool Golf Club anxious to expand the 'Scottish national game' by bringing it across the River Mersey.

As such, the West Lancashire Golf Club is the oldest in the county of Lancashire and one of the earliest golf clubs in England.

True classic links. The improvements on this course over the past 3/4 years are very noticeable and keeps getting better.

Greens run superb, love the layout and added bits of pathways and general up keep make this a must play on the Southport stretch

Watched the recent videos by teeuplo which I have to say are very god and informative. Great guide for golfers! Anyway onto the course review, really great links course that allows you to play good golf but punishes poor shots.

Greens are always very good as is Geraldine condition of the course. It's lower prices than some of its neighbours but every bit as good if not better.

    Underrated links gem

Played here in May 2016 and found the course in very good condition.

This is a most interesting links layout, without a weak hole. The greens were in great nick, and are particularly tricky, featuring many subtle slopes and run-off areas.

Reputed to be the toughest course in Lancashire, we were blessed with a benign day, which added to the overall enjoyment.

    I will definitely return.

After playing this course as part of the Southport Coastal Links Championship and being disappointed with the greens, especially on 13. I am happy to say that this time they were in fantastic condition. The course has suffered from some vandalism over the few months leading into summer but the green keeping staff have worked wonders restoring this great hidden gem back to all its glory. Full credit too them! The facilities are great and the pro shop staff are very welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed our day and are very much looking forward to the autumn open later this month.

Simply one of the best golf courses around. Not one bad hole on it, no fillers, just 18 proper golf holes on a proper golf course. Cannot speak highly enough of it. It has some magnificent neighbours but this beauty can more than hold its own with any of them. I could play here every day and never get bored

The Crosby Plate is a 36 hole Northern Order of Merit event played at West Lancs each year. Among the ten oldest golf clubs in England and a traditional true links course, this is a brutal test of golf by any player's standard! Great layout and very good greens along with great design makes the course extremely tough. Definitely worth taking a few extra balls in the bag! Great practice facilities and clubhouse has recently been refurbished.
