Recently visited Wigan Golf Club on a glorious summers day. we received the normal warm and friendly welcome, as is custom on all our visits. We had a good breakfast barmcake before our round and a good 2 course meal after our round. The practice area is ok, but a bit small. The course was in good condition, the greens where in good condition also, but a touch slow and a bit bobbly. The only bunker I went into had plenty of sand in it. It was a fabulous day out and look forward to returning next year.

Yearly visit to Wigan with the society. Like previous years, was looking forward to it. Weather was superb, but course was a bit of a let down on previous years. Hoping this is a one off due to green staff not being able to carry out normal duties with the madness that has been 2020. Tee boxes were in poor condition, and greens, whilst well covered in grass had not been cut for a while by the looks of it and running slow and bobbling. Bunkers were in good nick and fairways decent.

Practice facilities are poor, 3 out of 4 practice nets were thread bear and balls going through the nets and matts of practice nets had seen better days. Putting green is small and no chipping area, which would be fine for normal club play, but if turning up with 10+ players as societies tend to do, there is not enough room.

We had bacon a sausage barm before game (not usual full English due to circumstance with covid) and burger and chips post round. Food was lovely and staff hospitality excellent, never any complaints on the food or hospitality front.

In summary, generally enjoyed playing Wigan course these past few years, but was a bit disappointed this year. If back to it's normal standard next year, would love to visit again.

I played here as part of the visit of Bunkers Golf Society.

This is a course we visit every year due to the exceptional value offered on a course that offers a fair challenge.

The course is kept in excellent condition and has some holes that require a bit of thought.

We enjoyed an excellent breakfast prior to our round and a 2 course meal after which was also very enjoyable.

The staff and members I encountered were both very friendly and welcoming.

Well worth a visit!

This is a very pleasant track which offers challenge and great fun in equal measure.
I returned once again with my pals from Bunkers Golf Society for our annual trip which once again did not disappoint.
The course played beautifully although on this occasion the greens were a little "fluffy" which caused some well struck putts to bobble and come up short.
The welcome we received from the courteous, professional staff was as warm as ever and the food we were served both before and after our round was both delicious and plentiful.
All Covid-19 precautions were in place which was very reassuring.
I`m sure that we will continue to visit in the years ahead.

I play off 16.

Visited with BGS on 26th August.

The deal we got was the best a good club can offer. Great full English to start, 18 holes and a 2 course meal to finish, superb quality.

Friendly staff and a good chat with the Captain.

The course .... one of the toughest par 3 starts you will find(especially for a medal)

The course is tree lined and you will get punished if you are off line. The course is well presented and has some great holes.

The greens were not at their usual best although not too bad.

I would highly recommend you visit and societies get in touch as Wigan are very welcoming with the best deals around.

Wigan is a lovely golf course with a wonderful layout. It can suit both the long hitter and the thinking mans golfer with some holes being quite open and others being tight, requiring you to plot your way around.

The greens have suffered slightly this year with the wet summer but overall still playing excellently.

We had breakfast and a 2 course meal after the golf and the value was excellent. The staff are very welcoming. It has become one of our go to destinations and we will definitely be returning ASAP.

Bunkers GS August bank holiday weekend 2019

Lovely tree lined parkland course that requires accurate tee to green play, you can't just go around spraying shots and getting away with it with more open courses, which is a welcome challenge.

Practice chipping and putting area could be bigger and better presented for a reasonably large group turning up in one go, but for regular club golf or smaller groups, this wouldn't be an issue.

Weather on the day was baking hot but had followed some heavy rain earlier in the week, which I think led to the fairways and greens not being as well / recently cut as we'd seen on previous visits but I've played similar or worse for a lot more money.

Club staff couldn't be more welcoming and in terms of value for money I don't think we've seen better. I would visit again both as part of society or socially if suggested by friends.

I think Wigan golf club provides the best value of any events for my society - Bunkers Golf Society.

We enjoyed a cooked breakfast pre round and a very nice 2 course meal post round. Both meals were very nice.

The course itself is a favourite of the society with a good mix of holes providing a good test of golf.

On this occasion, the greens were not quite as good as they have been on previous visits. We have experience a poor summer weather wise and I presume this has taken its toll.

Still, a venue you should visit if you have the chance.

Another superb visit to this excellent parkland course in the company of my mates from Bunkers Golf Society. On arrival, our party was welcomed warmly by the club Captain. We were then served a substantial, tasty “Full English” then it was out onto the putting green and into the practice nets to prepare for our round.
As usual the course was in fine condition - although one or two players did report discovering some waterlogged ground around the track. In fairness there had been some significant recent rainfall and the greens were not quite up to their usual standard. They might perhaps have benefitted from another cut with several putts bobbling sufficiently to take them off their intended line.
Post round, you could not wish for a more relaxed setting....and time to enjoy the beer garden, wildlife, comfortable furniture.
The simple, two course meal (Home made cheese burger with chunky chips followed by apple pie and ice cream) was First Class! The chef and service staff were very courteous and extremely skilled and efficient.
All in all this visit offered us EXCEPTIONAL value for money and I can recommend this venue to golfers of all standards WITHOUT RESERVATION.

This was my first time playing Wigan GC and with some good reviews from society members I was expecting a great course and it certainly delivered.

The clubhouse is beautifully presented and very picturesque from the outside with the moat running right around and full of local wildlife. The clubhouse inside is again very nice and well presented.

The course itself plays a tough test for any golfer. You have to be accurate down this tree lined parkland course or you will be in a touch of bother although not unplayable just makes life that little harder. The full course is very easy on the eye and very well spread about non of the holes feel like your playing on top of another hole (although the 18th intersects the 7th I think). The greens on the day probably weren't the best as they were quite bobbly and were tough too read due to the bobbles, but mid season maintenance can't be knocked. But they were cut fantastic and very easy on the eye from afar. Bunkers are well placed and well stocked on sand. The fairways had plenty of roll and were easy enough to hit off.

All in all a great course very scenic with a stunning clubhouse. Would recommend to friends and budding golfers alike.

Love visiting Wigan GC

I visited Wigan GC on 25th Aug 2019 with Bunkers Golf Society and play off 9hcp.

I love visiting Wigan as it is always in great condition, the course is a wonderful layout and the day always offers great value. This visit was no different as we were looked after from start to finish both on and off the course.

A tough par 3 start [175 yards with OOB on the right] welcomes you to the course and this continues with tight tree lined fairways and undulating greens. You need to position the ball well around the course to be able to score well and its a great test of golf - primarily because you can't just 'bully' the course with the 'big stick', you need to use course management well.

The greens on this visit were a bit bobbly compared to previous years and looked to have been scarified or had mid season maintenance in the weeks previous [which is absolutely understandable given the poor summer weather in the UK plus the club needs to do this to make sure the greens play all year round - so its not a criticism, just a case of bad luck for us compared to usual years where they are always slick and smooth]. They were still more than playable and didn't effect the quality of golf on show!!! The rest of the course was delightful and as always, was very easy on the eye.

The day offers superb value and we always get well looked after. I will continue to sing the praises of Wigan GC and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it to any golfer. Get yourself down there!

We took Bunkers Golf Society back to Wigan Golf Club on 25th August 2019 for our final Major of the season. This is our 5th consecutive season visiting Wigan and as always, we were superbly looked after from start to finish.

Some clubs just know how to do things right and take care of visiting groups to ensure they return in future [with or without the group] and Wigan has always done this. From the office staff through to the caterers, bar staff and committee - we have always found them to be superb.

The course is always in immaculate condition and is a fair test of parkland golf with tree lined, tight fairways and tricky pin positions on some well protected greens.
For this particular visit the greens weren't up to the usual standard and seemed to have been through some recent maintenance but they were still in good condition comparable to other courses, but just not the usual smooth Wigan GC roll - and we can only review the club as we find it at the time.

The fairways were lush and well manicured and despite some recent poor weather in July the course was beautiful on the eye and played well.

The club house, surrounded by a moat is picturesque and a wonderful place to enjoy a few post round beers in the sun and the prices in the bar are more than fair. The day is superb value and is probably why Wigan is one of our members favourite venues each year.

The pre round and post round food was plentiful and went down an absolute storm [as usual] and the whole day from start to finish was first class. We sign Wigan's praises year-on-year to other golfers and will continue to do so. If you haven't been before, get yourself booked in for a visit and enjoy it.

The best golfing value in the country. The course is beautifully laid out and offers a stern test to all golfers. The fairways were in great condition and the green, whilst still quick, we’re a little bobbly and slightly disappointing. The food before and after the round was ‘simply lovely’. Great day enjoyed with some great lads. Thanks again to BarryTaylor @clarkes driving range for sponsoring the event.

Played here 7th July with the Swingersgolf society. The welcome that we got from the club on our arrival was fantastic very well organised now with new owners. The course was in fantastic condition and can not make a fault on the whole day. The staff very welcoming and also the members of the club are great. Its nice to hear members complementing our society outfits. After the golf we headed upstairs for a 2 course meal in which the new chef made was fantastic. Massive credit on the course within a year. Only problem is no pro shop so make sure you head to your local golf shop for your stuff. Think if had a pro shop this would make more appealing. But never the less this course has a lot to offer for golf societies and will be on our calendar for next year. Thanks for having us

Played here with the swingers society a couple of weeks ago! The course was in great condition despite the torrential rain! The back 9 is a later addition to the course and you can tell the difference in the greens and layout; both front and back equally enjoyable tho! Everything was well maintained with good facilities also! The thing that stood out the most the was value for money, our round included a 2 course meal! Would play here again!!

Played here with swingers golf society a few weeks ago. It's the first time I've ever played there and managed to score my best of of the season, in really tough conditions too (heavy rain). The course is in top condition with fast, well kept greens. Lovely two course meal after a great game of golf to end the day. Would recommend.
