Golf on a movie set

Is there a golf course in the World that has featured in more films that Stoke Park? I would suggest the answer is 'no' This golf course and iconic club house has featured in Hollywood blockbusters Goldfinger, Bridget Jones's Diary, Layer Cake, the list goes on. Today however it would play host to Teeuplo and the leading role would be performed by The Average Golfer.

The course, hotel and spa is set in acres of stunning green landscape and although seemingly a World away from the hustle and bustle of city life is only 35 mins from London and 7 mile from London's Heathrow airport.

Through the country lanes and into the meandering driveway which welcomes you slowly into the arms of the infamous hotel passing through holes 10 and 15 as you arrive at the hotel door. To say the hotel is grand would be an injustice, the welcome is both warm and sincere. The rooms have names and not numbers and you will be escorted to your room and an accompanying tour of your abode. My room was simply breathtaking and the stage for scenes shot in Bridget Jones's Diary which I am sure many can recall?

Walking down the spiralling staircase and into the dining room for my dinner was the build up to what would be an excellent 3 course meal that gives credit to the awarded 3 AA Rosettes.

But enough about the hotel, although I have to say the breakfast was equally as indulgent and could have happily sat watching others! it was time for the first tee and a quick challenge for The Average Golfer

Unsurprisingly......a great golf course

The golf course had a reputation of being a highly rated parkland course, one of the finest in the UK and its hard to argue otherwise. The course is designed by Harry Colt and the 16th at Augusta took inspiration from the design of hole number 7 at Stoke Park. Bunkers are a strong defence of the golf course and I would imagine unavoidable for most through 18 holes of play, the greens were very quick and true for the time of year, especially when consideration is given to the deluge of rain we had seen in the UK in the 7 days prior to play.

Its a great test of golf, some long par 4's, I would have welcomed a few 'forward' Winter tee boxes as in was a tough ask to get home in regulation. A great variety of golf holes and some classic parkland design, it is most certainly one of the best parkland courses in the UK as had been suggested.
